Background

As the Communications Business Partner, you will play a pivotal role in shaping a cross-portfolio communications strategy that enhances business performance, fosters organizational culture, and strengthens our visibility regarding our commitment to patients. You will oversee a portfolio that spans the RDS Core Lab Customer Area, working to maximize collaboration, flexibility, and impact while aligning Customer Area priorities with Roche Diagnostics and Group Communications strategies. Reporting to the Head of RDS Portfolio Strategy, you will develop and implement integrated communication strategies that inform, engage, and inspire both internal and external audiences, in close collaboration with members of the RDS Communications team, RDS Customer Areas, affiliates, and cross-functional colleagues. Exceptional communication skills, critical systems thinking, and the ability to build relationships at all levels are essential.

The ideal candidate will have extensive corporate communications experience, particularly in engaging external media, leaders, and employees, with a strong focus on catering to external audiences. This individual is strategic, collaborative, and curious, demonstrating a growth mindset and active listening skills. The candidate excels in influencing leaders and colleagues while providing effective coaching on communication delivery. As a creative systems thinker, you can see the bigger picture and translate complex needs or challenges into integrated, measurable plans. Strong prioritization and planning skills are a must.

Tasks & Responsibilities

  • Develop and execute cross-portfolio planning and measurement, focusing on creating and delivering integrated communications strategies that inspire, equip, engage, and align key audiences.
  • Enhance and communicate RDS communication strategies and solutions through leading external communications, public relations, and internal employee communications.
  • Collaborate closely with the Head of RDS Portfolio Strategy, RDS Customer Area Communication Business Partners, and the RDS Leadership Team to ensure impactful, integrated, and measurable communications in support of business priorities.
  • Co-create and deliver Global Communication topics and projects as part of the RDS Communications team, managing external vendors as necessary to meet business objectives within defined scope, timeline, and budgetary guidelines.
  • Define ways of working, resource allocation, and outcome-based planning to enhance operational efficiency with the broader RDS, Diagnostics, and Group Communications communities.
  • Regularly evaluate and report on the effectiveness of communication activities using innovative tools (e.g., GenAI) to drive consistency and ensure best practice communications, including developing digital/social capabilities based on Global Communications standards.
  • Ensure compliance with all company ethics and standards; guide and mentor project teams, support affiliate communicators, and lead through influence.

Must Haves

  • Bachelor’s Degree or equivalent experience in Communications, Journalism, or Marketing, with a proven track record of creating organizational success through integrated communication efforts.
  • At least 2 years of global/regional business experience as an in-house corporate communicator, preferably within the Pharma, Diagnostics, Medical Device, or Consumer Healthcare industries.
  • Experience leading, developing, and executing communication strategies, initiatives, and plans within complex, matrixed organizations.
  • Strong executive presence, with the ability to quickly understand business needs and circumstances and effectively advise others.
  • Self-motivated, thriving in a non-hierarchical and self-organizing environment.
  • Demonstrated ability to prioritize multiple projects and perform well under pressure and tight deadlines.
  • Outstanding communication and presentation skills, both written and verbal, with the ability to distill complex content into clear, concise, and engaging communications.
  • High interpersonal skills, with excellence in relationship building and intercultural sensitivity.
  • Experience in digital transformation and change management strategies is preferred.
  • Fluency in English is required.
