NEXUS Personalized Health - Senior Bioinformatics Analyst Position

The ETH Zurich core facility NEXUS Personalized Health is at the forefront of discovery and translational research aimed at personalized health. We offer a broad range of expertise, encompassing software engineering, biomedical data management, lab automation, and screening services. Within this multidisciplinary team, the Clinical Bioinformatics Group applies its knowledge in bioinformatics and statistics to advance biomedical research and clinical applications.

Position Overview

We are seeking a Senior Bioinformatics Analyst to join the Clinical Bioinformatics Group of NEXUS Personalized Health in Basel, with a start date to be determined by mutual agreement.

The primary focus of this role is project-specific analysis of diverse high-throughput multi-omics datasets, which include a variety of data types such as whole-genome sequencing, transcriptome sequencing, single-cell, and spatial data. As a Senior Bioinformatics Analyst, you will be instrumental in designing, executing, and documenting analytical workflows while upholding scientific rigor and best practices.

In this position, you will take the lead on assigned analyses while collaborating closely with the group lead and other experts within the NEXUS team. The role combines independent analytical work with active participation in project planning, interpretation, and dissemination of results.

Key Responsibilities

  • Develop and maintain reproducible analysis pipelines and software tools.
  • Contribute to the team’s shared infrastructure.
  • Ensure data is managed according to the FAIR principles and support partners in implementing best practices for Research Data Management (RDM).

Our projects encompass biomedical research and clinical diagnostics, covering a broad spectrum of applications—from basic NGS data processing to clinical reporting and public health surveillance. NEXUS collaborates closely with academic institutions and hospitals, creating a dynamic environment where scientific excellence and collaboration drive impactful outcomes.

Candidate Profile

We are looking for a motivated and detail-oriented colleague who thrives in a collaborative environment and possesses a strong interest in clinical science and translational research.

Qualifications

  • MSc (or higher) in bioinformatics, computational biology, or a related field.
  • At least 3 years of hands-on experience in biomedical, genomics, or integrative research projects involving molecular datasets.
  • Proven ability to extract biological insights and visualize complex multi-omics data.
  • Demonstrated experience in the analysis of genomics and/or transcriptomics sequencing data.
  • Solid programming skills in Python or R.
  • Familiarity with HPC environments and Bash scripting.
  • Experience with version control systems (e.g., Git).
  • Excellent communication skills in English.

Preferred Qualifications

  • Experience with AI or machine learning methods.
  • Background in statistics or software development.
  • Familiarity with workflow management systems (e.g., Snakemake, Nextflow).
  • Knowledge of German.
