THE ROLE
We are seeking a Senior Analyst or Associate to join Mercuria's Investment Team. This hands-on execution role is integral to the Group's principal investing activities. You will serve as the analytical backbone for new transactions and manage day-to-day operations involving the models, due diligence, and reporting that support these endeavors.
The team engages in a diverse range of investments across the entire commodity spectrum and capital stack, ensuring that no two deals are alike. From structured upstream acquisitions to greenfield power or storage platforms, and from metals offtake-linked equity investments to biofuels joint ventures, you will encounter a broad array of opportunities. This role is suited for individuals with a strong technical foundation who are eager to experience transactions from inception to completion and grasp the underlying commercial logic.
KEY RESPONSIBILITIES
- Build and maintain detailed financial, valuation, and commodity price models, including scenario and sensitivity analyses across price, volume, and capital structure.
- Conduct comprehensive market, asset, and counterparty due diligence, focusing on supply and demand fundamentals, cost curves, competitive positioning, regulatory considerations, and key commercial risks associated with each opportunity.
- Draft investment committee papers, investment memoranda, teasers, and board materials, presenting a clear and defensible investment case.
- Support deal execution from initial screening to closing, which includes managing data rooms, coordinating with legal, financial, technical, environmental, and commercial advisers, and integrating diligence findings into models and transaction documentation.
- Monitor portfolio assets and investments through quarterly performance reporting, budget and covenant tracking, KPI dashboards, valuation updates, and liquidity analysis.
- Collaborate closely across Mercuria’s business units, including trading desks, structured finance, risk management, treasury, legal, and tax, to understand how flows, offtake, hedging, and financing structures support each investment.
- Screen inbound opportunities and maintain the pipeline to bolster origination efforts.
EXPERIENCE AND QUALIFICATIONS
- 2-5 years of relevant experience in investment banking (natural resources, energy, power, or infrastructure coverage), private equity or infrastructure investing, commodities trading principal investment, or transaction advisory.
- Exceptional financial modeling and accounting skills, with a proven ability to build complex models from scratch and articulate the underlying assumptions.
- Strong written communication skills, with the ability to distill a large and complex array of information into a clear, structured investment document.
- A Bachelor’s degree; CFA, ACA, CPA, or equivalent credentials are advantageous but not mandatory.
- Comfortable working in a lean team environment with shifting priorities, exhibiting organizational skills, attention to detail, and resilience under tight transaction timelines.
WHAT WE OFFER
- The opportunity to invest from a principal balance sheet rather than a fund, providing a flexible mandate, long-term horizon, and absence of artificial deployment pressures.
- Direct exposure to one of the most commercially sophisticated trading franchises in the market, as well as to senior decision-makers within a flat, entrepreneurial organization.
- A streamlined deal team structure where individual contributions are recognized and ownership is granted early.
- Competitive base salary, discretionary performance-related bonus, and a comprehensive benefits package.
- Relocation support, where applicable.
