We are seeking a Research Engineer to contribute to both ongoing and upcoming research projects that lie at the fascinating intersection of machine learning and structural design (e.g., trusses, space frames).

This position will focus on the data-driven generation of structural systems. You will play a vital role in developing, experimenting with, and evaluating machine learning models designed to navigate expansive design spaces. This role is ideal for individuals who thrive in a research-driven environment, enjoy prototyping innovative ideas, and value interdisciplinary collaborations.

Position Details

This position is offered on a fixed-term basis for one year, with the possibility of extension based on performance and funding. The anticipated starting date is March/April 2026.

Key Responsibilities

  • Conceptualize and design structural systems, including trusses and space frames
  • Utilize unsupervised machine learning and deep learning methods
  • Analyze, visualize, and interpret learned design spaces
  • Contribute to impactful research outputs, including prototypes, publications, and open-source code

Required Skills

  • Master’s degree in a STEM field
  • Strong proficiency in Python
  • Practical experience with PyTorch
  • Solid understanding of unsupervised machine learning and deep learning
  • Excellent communication skills and fluency in English

Preferred Qualifications

  • Experience with Graph Neural Networks (GNN)
  • Familiarity with PyTorch Geometric (PyG)
  • Experience with or interest in Reinforcement Learning
  • Background or strong interest in optimization
