Role Overview
This role is highly autonomous and integrated within the front office. You will work closely with portfolio managers, other quants, and our internal IT team. You will be instrumental in developing a fixed income systematic strategy platform.
Required Qualifications
Education
- Degree from a renowned university in Computer Science, Mathematics, Physics, Engineering, or another quantitative discipline.
- At least 4 years of full-time equivalent studies.
- Strong foundation in probability, statistics, linear algebra, optimization, and machine learning.
Programming
- Minimum of 1 year of professional experience in Python software development.
- Proven ability to write clean, tested, production-quality Python code.
- Experience collaborating on a team of researchers and/or developers.
Software Engineering
- Evidence of building and deploying production-grade systems.
- Experience with writing tests, using version control, CI/CD pipelines, profiling, and debugging.
- Previous collaboration with developers using code review, issue tracking, and version control.
Algorithms & LLM Systems
- Ability to implement algorithms using data structures and numerical methods.
- Experience with the parallelization of computational workflows.
- Demonstrated experience building and deploying Retrieval-Augmented Generation (RAG) or other Language Model-based systems.
DevOps
- Utilized Docker to build and deploy services or backends using cloud infrastructure.
Databases & Financial Data
- Proficient in writing SQL queries, including joins and aggregations.
- Experience processing time series and other financial market data, comprising millions of records.
Production Code & Unix Tools
- Experience translating research or prototypes into robust production code with testing.
- Comfortable developing in Linux and using command-line development tools.
Financial Markets
- Basic knowledge of fixed income markets, including fixed-income instruments, pricing, yield curves, duration, convexity, spreads, and interest-rate risk.
Language
- Minimum C1 English proficiency (CEFR).
- Effective communication of technical topics.
Advantageous Skills
- A curious mindset, analytical thinking, and attention to detail.
- Top 10% academic performance or dean's list recognition.
- University coursework in finance.
- Experience modeling inflation or other macroeconomic time series.
Responsibilities
- Take ownership of building a new systematic trading strategy framework.
- Collaborate with portfolio managers to define and refine requirements.
- Utilize expert software engineering practices and design patterns.
- Implement core functional blocks such as PnL calculation and analytics.
- Periodically demonstrate progress to internal stakeholders.
- Autonomously manage backlog priority, including timelines.
- Develop data warehousing requirements for implementation by internal IT.
- Implement an optimization framework and build user interfaces as needed by internal users.
- Employ software engineering best practices for testing, monitoring, and observability.
- Address production issues during the deployment of systematic strategies.
- Engage in discussions with peers regarding open problems and seek assistance when necessary.
