W Talent is working exclusively with Manthorpe Building Products, part of the Genuit Group, to recruit a Quality Manager to join their manufacturing operation in Ripley, Derbyshire. This is an excellent opportunity for a quality professional with a robust manufacturing background to take ownership of the site's quality function and drive improvements across the Quality Management System, production processes, and product quality.
The Role - Quality Manager
As the Quality Manager, you will be based at the Ripley manufacturing site, responsible for managing and continuously improving the site's Quality Management System, ensuring compliance with ISO 9001 and customer-specific requirements. You will lead quality initiatives, oversee product and process quality, support new product introduction and qualification, and drive structured problem-solving and continuous improvement across the manufacturing operation.
Key Responsibilities
- Manage, maintain, and continuously improve the Quality Management System (QMS) in line with ISO 9001.
- Lead the internal audit program and support external and customer audits, including ISO and BBA.
- Maintain quality documentation including Control Plans, FMEAs, Process Flows, and Inspection Procedures.
- Lead, mentor, and develop the Quality team, promoting accountability and high performance.
- Oversee product quality from raw materials through to final delivery.
- Champion APQP, FAIR, and PPAP processes across new product introduction and validation.
- Define Critical to Quality (CTQ) requirements with Engineering and Technical teams.
- Lead root cause analysis and corrective action using structured methodologies including 8D, 5 Whys, and Fishbone.
- Analyze quality data including scrap, rework, returns, and other KPIs to identify trends and improvement opportunities.
- Manage supplier quality performance and lead the resolution of supplier non-conformances.
- Drive Lean Manufacturing and continuous improvement initiatives to reduce waste and improve product quality.
- Monitor and report on key Quality KPIs including PPM, First Pass Yield, and Cost of Quality.
- Support NPD/NPQ activity, ensuring robust product qualification and launch processes.
- Develop and review process plans, work instructions, and assembly procedures.
- Work collaboratively across the business to identify risks and implement sustainable improvements.
- Ensure compliance with Quality, Health & Safety, and Environmental policies and statutory requirements.
- Promote a strong culture of continuous improvement across the manufacturing operation.
Key Requirements
We are seeking a quality professional who has experience within a manufacturing environment, ideally with expertise in plastics or similar high-volume manufacturing settings. You should be comfortable operating at both a strategic and hands-on level, possessing the ability to lead a Quality team while also being actively involved in problem-solving and process improvement on the shop floor.
You will ideally have:
- Experience working within a Quality Management System, preferably ISO 9001.
- Previous experience in a Quality Manager, Quality Engineering, or similar senior Quality position.
- Experience within a manufacturing environment, ideally plastics.
- Strong knowledge of quality tools including FMEA, Control Plans, SPC, and MSA.
- Experience leading structured root cause analysis and corrective action.
- Strong data analysis and KPI management skills.
- Knowledge of Lean Manufacturing and Continuous Improvement principles.
- Experience managing, developing, and motivating a Quality team.
- Strong communication and stakeholder management skills.
