Postdoc Bird Population Genomics

Join our innovative team within the Bird Migration Unit, which explores various facets of bird migration through individual tracking, radar ornithology, and genomics. Our project is dedicated to uncovering the processes and molecular variations responsible for the evolution of new migration phenotypes across several bird species. We are looking for a candidate to strengthen our team starting from April 1, 2026, or upon agreement.

Your Tasks

In this role, you will collaborate with colleagues both within the Unit and across other departments of the institute. Your primary responsibilities will include:

• Management of whole-genome resequencing data
• Population genomic analysis of large-scale whole genome resequencing data sets
• Relatedness analysis based on low-coverage whole-genome resequencing data
• Writing scientific papers and providing support in this area

Your Profile

The ideal candidate will possess the following qualifications:

• PhD in evolutionary biology, population genomics, bioinformatics, or a related field
• Experience with managing and analyzing large-scale whole-genome resequencing data
• Proficiency in scientific writing
• Experience in supporting projects with genomic analyses
• Fluency in English; knowledge of German or French is a plus
