The Unit of Population Biology investigates how changes in demographic processes—such as survival, reproductive success, and dispersal—affect the spatio-temporal patterns in the distribution and abundance of birds. We also explore the ecological factors that influence these patterns. The study of population change is inherently complex, as it is influenced by a myriad of extrinsic and intrinsic factors that are often only partially observable. Consequently, a secondary focus of our unit is the development and dissemination of statistical models that facilitate such research.
