Pharmacoepidemiologist

Roche Switzerland bridges the gap between pharmaceuticals and diagnostics. Important research and development functions are located here. For our long-term client, F. Hoffmann-La Roche AG in Basel, we are looking for a talented Pharmacoepidemiologist.

Background

A healthier future. It's what drives us to innovate and continuously advance science, ensuring that everyone has access to the healthcare they need today and for generations to come. Creating a world where we all have more time with the people we love—that's what makes Roche unique. As a Pharmacoepidemiologist, you will be responsible for supporting the epidemiology activities performed in Roche's Global Safety and Risk Management organization.

You will play a key role in the design, conduct, analysis, interpretation, and reporting of both simple and complex epidemiological studies based on real-world data sources (CLAIMS or EHR), registries, and literature sources. You will also oversee non-interventional studies that are outsourced and initiated by Safety and Risk Management.

Tasks & Responsibilities

  • Perform independent analyses of secondary data, including insurance claims, electronic medical records, patient surveys, and disease registries.
  • Support the development of research protocols and statistical analysis plans, recommending and implementing appropriate analytical methodologies (e.g., propensity score matching, regression analysis, etc.) for real-world data (RWD) studies.
  • Design, develop, test, implement, validate, document, and maintain effective R programs for reporting observational database studies, while evaluating new data sources and designing studies focused on safety endpoints.
  • Represent your function in internal and/or external cross-functional strategic planning and other initiatives to innovate methodologies and technology.
  • Oversee the scientific content of literature reviews and summaries, applying findings and evidence-based best practices to the design of surveillance and epidemiological investigations and the development of program recommendations. Collaborate with Safety Data Scientists to ensure rigorous quantitative approaches are used in molecule safety strategies.

Must Haves

  • A university degree in Public Health, Epidemiology, Outcomes Research, Health Economics, or a relevant scientific field, along with an MSc or PhD in Epidemiology with a specialization in data analysis. Exceptionally qualified applicants with extensive relevant experience but without a Master's degree are also encouraged to apply.
  • At least 2 years of applied working experience with relational real-world databases and in the design and execution of non-interventional RWD studies.
  • Strong knowledge of epidemiological study designs and the ability to select appropriate pharmacoepidemiologic strategies for molecule plans.
  • Proven ability to analyze data from Clinical Trials, Biomarker studies, insurance claims, disease registries, surveys, and EHR databases.
  • Familiarity with medical terminology and coding dictionaries (MedDRA, SNOMED, ICD 10, CPT, HCPCS).
  • Capability to design, develop, test, document R/Python/SQL programs for observational database studies.
  • Adept at transforming data and analyses into informative visualizations, reports, and interactive dashboards using tools like R Shiny, RMarkdown, and Python.
  • Competence in developing research protocols, statistical analysis plans, and recommending analytical methodologies (e.g., regression analysis).
