Our client is a specialist biotherapeutics manufacturer with a century of experience dedicated to treating various diseases worldwide. They focus on patients with coagulation disorders, immunological diseases, enzyme deficiency diseases, and other rare conditions.

For their site in Bern, Switzerland, our client is currently seeking a:

Pharma CAPEX Project Manager - Lab/Utilities

This position is offered on a 12-month contract, with possibilities for extension and the flexibility of working from home two days a week.

Main Responsibilities:

  • Oversee project activities necessary for scoping, developing, procuring, constructing, and qualifying new equipment and facilities to meet production throughput demands.
  • Lead multi-disciplinary teams through the project lifecycle to ensure delivery of capacity expansion aligned with global and local strategic requirements.
  • Develop and maintain integrated project plans, monitoring activities for adherence to milestones, deliverables, and budget compared to the approved plan.
  • Maintain oversight of project risks and formulate effective risk mitigation strategies.
  • Ensure initiatives align with business objectives and strategic philosophy.
  • Provide cGMP-compliant processes and facilities suitable for FDA and global regulatory approval.
  • Implement EHS-by-design principles throughout the project.
  • Generate regular project reports, including financial updates, project schedules, risks, and summaries of current activities for site senior management and global steering committees.
  • Guide project teams to complete lifecycle activities through performance qualification.
  • Encourage collaboration, customer focus, and superior performance through personal leadership, mentoring, and effective communication.

Qualifications and Experience:

  • Valid working/residency permit or Swiss/EU citizenship required.
  • Successful completion of studies in Engineering, Business Administration, or Life Sciences (MS/MBA/BS/BA or equivalent).
  • Five years of experience managing capital projects in the pharmaceutical industry.
  • Experience in laboratory projects is preferred.
  • Functional knowledge of cGMPs and manufacturing operations in FDA-regulated facilities.
  • Excellent understanding of project management principles and lifecycle phases.
  • Ability to manage multiple tasks simultaneously and integrate project planning efforts across functions.
  • Proficient in understanding “the big picture” and approaching problem-solving proactively within a team.
  • Fluency in both German and English is mandatory.
