Join the Swiss Data Science Center as a Junior Communications Designer
The Swiss Data Science Center (SDSC) is a national research infrastructure in data science and artificial intelligence (AI) within the ETH domain, with EPFL and ETH Zurich as founding partners. Our mission is to support academic labs, hospitals, industry, and public sector stakeholders—this includes cantonal and federal administrations—throughout their entire data science journey, from data collection and management to machine learning, AI, and industrialization. With a large multidisciplinary team of professionals spread across three locations (Lausanne, Zurich, Villigen), the SDSC offers expertise and services across various domains including health and biomedical sciences, energy and sustainability, climate and environment, and large-scale scientific infrastructures.
Position Overview
We are seeking a creative and detail-oriented Junior Communications Designer to join our dynamic communications team. The ideal candidate will possess a strong eye for visual design, a keen interest in science and technology, and the ability to transform complex ideas into engaging visuals and multimedia content. This position is particularly well-suited for a designer at the beginning of their career who is eager to learn, collaborate with technical experts, and contribute to a mission-driven organization.

Key Responsibilities
Design & Creative Production
- Create visually engaging content for print and digital platforms (e.g., reports, brochures, social media, infographics, presentations).
- Support the design and layout of marketing and communication materials in alignment with brand guidelines.
- Assist in maintaining visual consistency across all communication channels.
- Contribute to the development of infographics and visual explainers for technical topics and projects.
Digital Media & Content Creation
- Design and produce digital assets for the website, email campaigns, and social media.
- Support the creation of short videos, animations, or motion graphics for campaigns and events.
- Edit photos and videos to enhance communication materials.
- Assist in managing and updating visual content on digital platforms.
Branding & Support
- Help ensure the consistent application of the organization’s brand identity.
- Collaborate with the Communications and Events teams to produce materials for internal and external events (e.g., banners, signage, presentation templates).
- Stay updated on design trends and emerging digital tools to enhance the organization’s visual communication.
Qualifications
- Bachelor’s degree (or diploma) in Graphic Design, Visual Communication, Multimedia Design, or a related field.
- Strong proficiency in design and media software (e.g., Adobe Creative Suite: Illustrator, InDesign, Photoshop, Premiere Pro, After Effects, or similar tools).
- Understanding of design principles, layout, typography, and color.
- Ability to translate technical or abstract ideas into clear, visual storytelling.
- Keen attention to detail and a commitment to high-quality work.
- Ability to manage multiple projects and meet deadlines in a fast-paced environment.
Desirable Criteria
- Basic knowledge of HTML/CSS or familiarity with website content management systems (e.g., WebFlow).
- Experience with social media content creation and scheduling tools.
- Familiarity with motion graphics, animation, or 3D design.
- Experience with video creation.
- Interest in science, engineering, or technology communication.
- Experience collaborating in a cross-functional or technical environment.
