Highly Qualified Tailor / Highly Qualified Seamstress

Gavel GmbH - May 16, 2026

Join Our Team at GAVEL Nähatelier

GAVEL Nähatelier is seeking a highly skilled tailor or seamstress to join our atelier located on Claridenstrasse in the heart of Zurich. We are dedicated to the philosophy of Slow Fashion, specializing in precise fit, bespoke and custom tailoring, as well as meticulous attention to detail in men’s and women’s clothing from globally recognized brands.

Your Craftsmanship Matters

We are looking for a true craftsperson who recognizes the distinction between "done" and "done correctly." We place a premium on:

  • Clean inside finishes
  • Straight stitching
  • Neat linings
  • Symmetry
  • Respect for fabric
  • Attention to fit

If maintaining a high standard of quality is your personal ethos, we would love to hear from you.

Position Requirements

This is not a training or internship position. We require a craftsperson who can work independently on professional tasks at a high level. Years of experience alone are not sufficient; the quality of your work speaks volumes. Whether you have 10, 20, or 30 years of experience, what matters most to us is the excellence of your seams, finishes, and details.

Key Responsibilities

  • Complex garment fitting and alterations
  • Alterations of jackets, trousers, dresses, coats, and other garments
  • Work with linings, sleeves, armholes, waist, and shoulder areas
  • Perform precise hand sewing operations
  • Final finishing of garments
  • Handle delicate and expensive fabrics
  • Repair, restore, and carefully recover garments
  • Participate in bespoke, custom, and complex projects, contingent on your experience

Our Expectations

  • Professional-level sewing skills
  • Independence in completing tasks without constant oversight
  • Understanding garment construction and the logic of cuts
  • Ability to maintain symmetry, fabric patterns, and clean finishes
  • Consistent delivery of high-quality results at a steady pace
  • Willingness to work with delicate materials and valuable garments
  • Legal right to work in Switzerland

Experience with men’s jackets, bespoke or custom tailoring, complex alterations, hand-made buttonholes, and working with leading international brands will be advantageous.

What We Offer

  • A bright workspace with large windows and a view of an inner park
  • Professional equipment and the flexibility to tailor your workplace setup
  • A culture that values craftsmanship: quality, precision, and technique are prioritized over speed
  • Opportunity to work in a growing premium atelier in central Zurich
  • A stable flow of work with the potential for full-time employment
  • Part-time options available initially for your convenience
  • Compensation above standard levels for atelier work, contingent on qualifications and work quality

Communication

Most work will occur within the atelier, with minimal direct client interaction. However, participation in fittings may be required to enhance task understanding. We welcome candidates who can communicate professionally with clients. Proficiency in Russian, Ukrainian, Polish, English, or German is acceptable, though fluency is not mandatory. Clear communication regarding tasks, details, and quality will be essential.
