General Counsel

On behalf of our client, a global event company with operations in multiple countries, we are seeking an experienced, motivated, and dynamic professional for a position based in the canton of Basel, Switzerland.

Your Responsibilities:

  • Advise the CEO and Senior Executive Team on all legal and commercial matters impacting the Company’s reputation, risk, and strategy.
  • Collaborate closely with the Senior Executive Team on corporate and commercial strategy, including business and corporate development initiatives.
  • Support the development and implementation of the global strategy in commercial transactions.
  • Lead and support major transactions and negotiations, including M&A, partnerships, and other significant matters.
  • Structure deals and guide the execution of new business and corporate development initiatives.
  • Manage board and corporate approval processes effectively.
  • Provide legal support for fair operations, focusing on content, infrastructure, and related areas.
  • Embed the Company’s governance and compliance best practices across its operations.
  • Build and implement legal tools and processes to enhance Company operations.
  • Align legal and risk requirements across the Company’s value chain, including galleries, visitors, partnerships, and operations.
  • Standardize and professionalize the Company’s legal outputs, such as visitor rules, exhibition regulations, and online terms.
  • Support the HR team with legal matters related to employment and organizational issues.
  • Manage and resolve commercial disputes as they arise.
  • Coordinate with the Company Group’s legal, risk, finance, and tax functions as necessary.
  • Engage with the Company Group’s Board of Directors as required.
  • Oversee the instruction of external counsel and manage the Company’s legal budget.

Your Profile:

  • Law degree with a strong emphasis on international law.
  • Additional academic qualifications or continuing education in business or management.
  • A minimum of 20 years of senior-level professional experience in the event and entertainment media industry, with in-depth knowledge of media, cultural, and digital business models, including technological advancements and innovation.
  • At least 15 years of in-house experience in complex global organizations, with direct experience in businesses operating across Asia, Europe, the United States, and the Middle East.
  • A minimum of 10 years of proven experience in senior legal roles, particularly in leading and executing complex international M&A transactions, including large-scale, cross-border deals valued in the multi-billion range.
  • Extensive expertise in IP law, ideally within the event, entertainment, or media sectors.
  • At least 10 years’ experience at the General Counsel level, with responsibility for managing, transforming, and developing organizational structures.
  • Strong corporate and commercial law expertise across numerous jurisdictions, including managing complex deal negotiations and multiple stakeholders.
  • Proven track record in leading and managing multi-disciplinary project workstreams involving strategy, tax, finance, compliance, risk, and operations.
  • Experience working with senior and board-level executives in global organizations, with the ability to positively influence decision-making in a constructive and credible manner.
  • Native or business-level proficiency in English.
  • Demonstrated ability to work independently, manage innovative structures, and assume responsibility for commercial risk.
  • Willingness to operate across multiple jurisdictions and travel regularly as required.
