Summary

The Novartis Strategy & Growth, Therapeutic Area Strategy team for Oncology & Hematology is seeking an Executive Director, Therapeutic Area Strategy. This position will support the development and continuous refinement of a comprehensive TA strategy, provide early-phase commercial insights for project teams, guide TA-specific internal pipeline development, and explore external licensing and acquisition opportunities. The role will also facilitate alignment across Biomedical Research (BR), Development, Strategy & Growth (S&G), and the Commercial US and International teams.

About the Role

Key Responsibilities:

  • Provide external benchmarking, analysis, and insights to assist the TA Strategy Head in formulating a sustainable growth strategy for Novartis.
  • Utilize a deep understanding of the pharmaceutical industry and the core Therapeutic Areas (TA) of Oncology & Hematology to derive competitive advantages.
  • Deliver critical commercial insights to R&D project teams, particularly for early-phase programs, leveraging in-market experience in the US.
  • Analyze reports and publications to extract key messages and aid in building product forecasts.
  • Support the identification of growth opportunities and emerging competitive challenges through the development of TA-specific strategic external insights.

Essential Requirements:

  • Bachelor's degree required; an advanced degree (PhD, MD, or equivalent) in life sciences/healthcare and/or an MBA is highly preferred.
  • In-depth knowledge of Oncology and/or Hematology, with the ability to acquire expertise swiftly.
  • Proven agility to manage multiple strategic DAs within a TA and various internal and external programs.
  • Considerable experience evaluating new product opportunities through M&A, BD&L, and internal research programs.
  • 7-10 years of industry experience in pharma and/or medical devices, particularly in R&D and commercial functions, with experience in primary research activities.
  • Experience in strategy development and asset shaping in the early stages of a product lifecycle.
  • Recent local US in-market experience, including working within US healthcare systems.
