Job Purpose

As an Exams Invigilator, you will play a pivotal role in ensuring the integrity, confidentiality, and security of the external examination process.

Key Tasks and Responsibilities

  • Conduct examinations in strict adherence to the regulations and guidelines of Aiglon College and the relevant exam boards, including the International Baccalaureate (IB), Joint Council for Qualifications (JCQ), and Cambridge International Education (CIE).
  • Ensure that all candidates have an equal opportunity to demonstrate their abilities.
  • Safeguard examination materials before, during, and after examinations.
  • Prevent potential candidate malpractice and administrative errors.

Invigilators are expected to:

  • Declare any previous invigilation experience and any current maladministration/malpractice sanctions.
  • Understand and implement school policies and procedures, particularly those related to child safeguarding.
  • Confirm availability in advance of major examination periods.
  • Maintain a solid understanding of current exam board regulations and guidelines by studying all materials provided by the Exams Officer.
  • Complete relevant online invigilator training before the start of each new academic year as directed by the Exams Officer.

Main Duties in Detail

Before Examinations

  • Report to and receive a briefing from the Exams Officer prior to each exam session.
  • Ensure confidential exam question papers and materials are kept secure throughout the examination process.
  • Prepare exam rooms in accordance with the specified requirements.
  • Admit candidates into exam rooms under formal examination conditions.
  • Maintain focus on conducting the examinations properly.
  • Identify and seat candidates according to the required arrangements.
  • Distribute the correct question papers and exam materials to candidates.
  • Instruct candidates regarding the conduct of their exams and address any questions they may have.
  • Start examinations promptly.

During Examinations

  • Supervise and observe candidates at all times, remaining vigilant throughout the examinations.
  • Minimize disruptions in examination rooms.
  • Effectively address emergencies or irregularities as they arise.
  • Record and report any incidents, disruptions, or irregularities.
  • Complete attendance registers accurately.

After Examinations

  • Guide candidates in concluding their exams and collect all examination scripts and materials.
  • Dismiss candidates from the examination room appropriately.
  • Verify that candidates’ names on scripts match the details on the attendance register.
  • Securely return all examination scripts and materials to the Exams Officer.

Other Tasks and Responsibilities

As needed, you may perform additional responsibilities assigned by the Exams Officer, including:

  • Supervising candidates with timetable clashes between sessions.
  • Providing support to candidates with access arrangements, such as reading and scribing (full training will be provided).
  • Assisting with other exam-related administrative tasks to ensure question paper security.
  • Undertaking any other reasonable tasks required by the Studies Department.

You will also be expected to understand and implement all school policies and procedures, particularly those relating to safeguarding children and young people, and uphold the School’s Guiding Principles and ethos at all times.

Experience and Knowledge

Desirable:

  • Direct invigilation experience is preferred but not mandatory, as training will be provided.

  • Reliable, flexible, and readily available during main examination periods.
  • Able to invigilate for full mornings (approximately 08:15-13:00) or full afternoons (approximately 12:30-17:30), preferably for entire days.
