Challenge the Impossible

About Beyond Gravity
Headquartered in Zurich, Switzerland, Beyond Gravity stands out as a unique space company. We combine agility, speed, and innovation, merging a start-up mindset with decades of industry expertise, evidenced by a track record of 100% mission success. Our dynamic team of over 1,700 professionals, spread across 13 locations in six countries, is committed to pushing the limits of what is technically feasible. We don’t just build essential products for the satellites and launchers industry; we are dedicated to improving life on Earth.

Your Crew

By joining the Satellites Division and the Strategic Projects Department, you will collaborate with multidisciplinary engineers to contribute to the development of technologies for future satellite payloads in a multicultural environment. Our collaborative and lean organization fosters creativity and professional growth, supported by highly skilled experts.

Your Mission

As space systems become increasingly complex, the need for accurate, modular simulation environments is critical for design, validation, and operations. A Digital Twin is a powerful tool that emulates spacecraft behavior, allowing engineers to test algorithms, predict performance, and inject faults without incurring expensive hardware costs.

The primary goal of this project is to lay the groundwork for a Digital Twin demonstrator for the Multi-Purpose Platform Satellite (MPP) in Low Earth Orbit (LEO). This twin will replicate selected subsystems and serve as a backbone for simulation services and visualization.

Your responsibilities will include:

  • Defining system boundaries for various subsystems to avoid excessive complexity.
  • Documenting simulation capabilities, including physics-based and subsystem-level behaviors.
  • Specifying interfaces (ICDs) for models: inputs, outputs, states, and parameters.
  • Creating a high-level functional architecture for different layers.
  • Defining dependencies and input/output connections of digital twin submodules.
  • Implementing core models, including hardware emulation and algorithmic control laws.
  • Defining and interconnecting all electrical interfaces among subsystems.
  • Establishing power budget dynamic behaviors based on satellite mode and operations interconnect.
  • Enhancing an existing simulation backbone for scheduling, logging, telemetry routing, and command dispatch, built in Rust.
  • Integrating visualization tools and assessing feasibility with a GUI to generate specific data inputs related to existing modules of the Digital Twin and creating plot renderings based on simulation outputs.
  • If time permits, designing and executing failure injection scenarios to validate robustness.
  • Contributing to the delivery of a working Digital Twin slice, enabling Beyond Gravity to enhance engineering workflows and establish a scalable simulation ecosystem.

Take responsibility and ownership to ensure that the digital twin code is correctly set up. Document requirements, architecture, and test results for future reuse, including installation procedures, configuration, and comprehensive handover documentation.

Your Story

  • Currently enrolled in a Master's program at a technical university or similar in aerospace engineering, system engineering, physics, electrical engineering, or software engineering.
  • Expertise in modeling and software development.
  • Proficient in programming languages such as C/C++ or Rust; experience with MATLAB and Simulink is a plus.
  • Understanding of satellite orbital mechanics and space systems.
  • Exhibiting engineering and scientific curiosity along with a proactive attitude.
  • Possessing good independence, teamwork abilities, and communication skills.
  • English proficiency is required; knowledge of German is a plus.
