Job Description

This role is part of the In Vivo Sciences chapter within Pharmaceutical Sciences (PS). The team focuses on the housing and care of laboratory animals, as well as the high-quality execution of in vivo studies in pharmacology, pharmacokinetics, pharmacodynamics, and toxicology. In Vivo Sciences operates the animal facility within pRED, making it a key enabler for all in vivo research activities.

The Ideal Candidate

The ideal candidate has completed vocational training in a biological or chemical laboratory profession or possesses substantial hands-on experience working with laboratory animals. A minimum of two years of professional experience as a laboratory technician, veterinary nurse, animal technician, or in a similar role is required. Ideally, the candidate has completed a certified laboratory animal science course and is fluent in both German and English.

Tasks & Responsibilities

As part of your role, you will be responsible for the execution of in vivo studies in rodents and rabbits within the fields of toxicology and pharmacokinetics, including but not limited to:

  • Clinical scoring
  • Blood sampling
  • Dosing via multiple routes (IP, IV, PO, subcutaneous)
  • Basic necropsy work
  • Collecting, documenting, reviewing, and verifying data in both paper forms and electronic data capture systems
  • Participating in weekend study activities on a rotational schedule
  • Optional: Conducting or assisting with surgical procedures including anaesthesia and providing pre- and postoperative care following best veterinary and animal welfare practices

Must Haves

  • Completed training as an in vivo associate, biology laboratory assistant, or relevant hands-on experience in laboratory animal work
  • A minimum of 2 years of work experience with laboratory animals (rats and mice)
  • Accredited animal course (LTK or FELASA) is mandatory
  • Languages: Fluent English
