Position Summary
Our client is seeking a uniquely qualified individual with a rare blend of scientific, regulatory, policy, and global health expertise to lead its Geneva operations and spearhead the international expansion of its diagnostic portfolio. This role demands a globally recognized leader with proven experience translating diagnostics from discovery through to WHO endorsement and national programmatic uptake, while maintaining active scientific output and stakeholder influence across WHO, StopTB, Global Fund, FIND, MSF, and major donors.
Minimum Qualifications
- Hold an advanced degree (PhD, MD).
- A minimum of 12 years’ experience with a track record of planning, conducting, and analyzing clinical studies and trials.
- Exceptional hands-on experience in research and development in Low and Middle-Income Countries (LMIC), particularly in areas related to tuberculosis, HIV, viral pathogens, and other infectious diseases.
- Demonstrated advanced understanding of molecular biology, immunoassays, and cutting-edge diagnostics technologies.
- Proven history of managing large teams and staff globally.
- Experience in a leadership position across multinational organizations.
- Cross-sector experience in academic, biotech, and global health landscapes, including funders.
- Track record of supporting regulatory and policy pathways for WHO-approved diagnostic products.
- Experience with WHO GDG, PQ, TAG, and TEGs, possessing detailed knowledge of the evidence requirements for product approval.
- Good understanding of regulatory approval pathways for In Vitro Diagnostics (IVD) and mechanisms supporting UN/GF procurement agencies (e.g., CE-IVD, WHO PQ, ERPD, CDSCO, SAHPRA), health technology assessment, and policy development.
- Knowledge of the diagnostic landscape and cutting-edge technologies.
- Proven ability to manage large budgets across multiple projects.
- A demonstrated track record of innovative fundraising.
- Thorough understanding of Good Practices (GXP) for trials, manufacturing, and laboratories.
- Strong network of stakeholders in relevant governments, with a proven ability to influence policy and donor alignment.
- Experience working and operating in BSL3 containment facilities.
- Verifiable soft skills in data-driven decision-making, staff motivation, and cross-cultural collaboration.
- Clear understanding of tuberculosis, especially in diagnostics, along with knowledge of other infectious diseases being an added benefit.
- Relevant experience working in low and middle-income countries.
- Superior scientific writing skills with a track record of publications and/or successful grant development as a Principal Investigator (PI).
- Strong ability to build relationships and partnerships, facilitate consensus building, and resolve conflicts.
- Excellent public speaking skills, including for topics outside specific areas of expertise.
