Position Summary

Our client is seeking a uniquely qualified individual with a rare blend of scientific, regulatory, policy, and global health expertise to lead its Geneva operations and spearhead the international expansion of its diagnostic portfolio. This role demands a globally recognized leader with a proven track record in translating diagnostics from discovery through to WHO endorsement and national programmatic uptake. The ideal candidate will maintain active scientific output and influence key stakeholders across WHO, StopTB, Global Fund, FIND, MSF, and major donors.

Minimum Qualifications

  • Holds an advanced degree (PhD, MD).
  • Minimum of 12 years’ experience with a track record in planning, conducting, and analyzing clinical studies and trials.
  • Exceptional hands-on experience in research and development in low- and middle-income countries (LMIC), particularly in relation to tuberculosis, HIV, viral pathogens, and other infectious diseases.
  • Advanced understanding of molecular biology, immunoassays, and cutting-edge diagnostic technologies.
  • A history of managing large teams and staff globally.
  • Experienced in leadership positions across multinational organizations.
  • Cross-sector experience in academia, biotech, and the global health landscape, including interactions with funding bodies.
  • A track record of supporting regulatory and policy pathways for WHO-approved diagnostic products.
  • Experience in WHO GDG, PQ, TAG, and TEGs, along with detailed knowledge of evidence requirements for product approval.
  • Good understanding of pathways for IVD regulatory approvals and mechanisms that support procurement agencies such as CE-IVD, WHO PQ, ERPD, CDSCO, and SAHPRA, among others.
  • Knowledge of the diagnostics landscape for cutting-edge technologies.
  • Experience managing large budgets across multiple projects.
  • Demonstrated track record of innovative fundraising.
  • Thorough understanding of GXP for trials, manufacturing, and laboratories.
  • A strong network of stakeholders in relevant government sectors with proven influence on policy and donor alignment.
  • Experience operating in BSL3 containment facilities.
  • Verifiable soft skills in data-driven decision-making, staff motivation, and cross-cultural collaboration.
  • Clear understanding of tuberculosis diagnostics and related public health issues; knowledge of other infectious diseases is a plus.
  • Relevant experience working in low- and middle-income countries.
  • Superior scientific writing skills with a track record of publications and/or successful grant development as a Principal Investigator (PI).
  • Strong relationship-building skills, with competencies in consensus building and conflict resolution.
  • Excellent public speaking skills, including engaging on topics outside of specific expertise.
