Summary

The Translational Medicine Discovery & Profiling (TMDP) team comprises physicians and clinical researchers who drive innovative science from discovery to patient care. Our objective is to select, profile, and support the early clinical development of medicines. Translational Medicine Experts (TMEs) oversee phase 1 first-in-human (FiH) studies, as well as phase 2 proof-of-concept (PoC) and dose range finding (DRF) studies in support of Phase 3 development. As key members of global cross-functional project teams, TMEs collaborate with colleagues in biology and chemistry to identify targets in diseases with significant unmet medical needs. They provide insights on potential clinical development pathways and play a vital role in drafting clinical trial protocols as medical leads for these trials.

About the Role

Key Responsibilities:

• Lead global clinical trial teams through phase 1 and 2 development.
• Draft the early clinical development plan.
• Act as medical lead for early clinical studies.
• Represent the team in relevant decision boards.
• Serve as the primary contact for internal and external key opinion leaders.
• Oversee the publication and internal/external presentation of clinical study results.
• Collaborate closely with biomarker experts in implementation.
• Work alongside research scientists to develop and implement strategies for preclinical support of program-related objectives.
• Actively participate in interactions with health authorities.

Essential Requirements:

• Medical doctor with board certification in gastroenterology or a relevant medical specialty.
• Several years of clinical experience treating patients with inflammatory bowel disease (IBD) - including ulcerative colitis (UC) and Crohn's disease (CD).
• Ability to learn quickly and work independently.
• Proven leadership skills in multidisciplinary teams within a matrix organization.
• Excellent communication and presentation skills.

Desirable Requirements:

• Research experience (e.g., Ph.D.) is a plus, but not required.
• Experience in drug development as a trial investigator or in the pharmaceutical industry is advantageous but not essential.
• Publications in the field of IBD are beneficial but not mandatory.

The expected annual base salary for this role ranges from CHF 122,500 to CHF 227,500. This salary is determined based on relevant skills, competencies, and experience in accordance with our pay setting policy. Your base salary will be reviewed periodically upon joining Novartis.
