Job Opportunity: Part-Time Animal Transgenic Specialist

The Laboratory of Regenerative and Muscle Biology in the Department of Health Sciences and Technology at ETH Zurich is seeking a highly motivated and organized part-time animal transgenic specialist. Our lab's primary focus is to explore the regenerative potential of stem cells, particularly pluripotent and skeletal muscle stem cells, utilizing state-of-the-art transgenic models.

Under the direction of Prof. Ori Bar-Nur, our multidisciplinary and collaborative team is dedicated to translating basic research findings into therapeutically applicable treatments. We operate at the intersection of molecular and cellular biology, gene- and cell-based therapies, and tissue engineering. Our work in transgenesis plays a crucial role in advancing our understanding of biological processes and developing potential new therapies for muscle diseases.

Primary Responsibilities

  • Generation of chimeric rodents from embryonic stem cells (ESCs) or induced pluripotent stem cells (iPSCs) through blastocyst injection or morula aggregation
  • Generation of transgenic mice and rats via pronuclear injection, electroporation, or AAV transduction of DNA and CRISPR-Cas9 constructs
  • Embryo and sperm cryopreservation
  • In vitro fertilization and intracytoplasmic sperm injection
  • Reproduction-related surgical interventions, including harvesting oocytes and embryos, sperm collection, and vasectomy

Qualifications

  • A minimum of a BSc degree in Biology, Biochemistry, Biotechnology, Bioengineering, Biomedical Sciences, or a related research field
  • Experience in a transgenic animal unit is essential, along with the ability to perform several of the outlined responsibilities
  • Certification in LTK-M1 or an equivalent permit to work with laboratory rodents
  • Excellent communication skills, collaborative attitude, organization, and reliability
  • Fluency in English is required, as this role involves daily interactions with international PhD students and postdoctoral research fellows

Additional training will be provided for the listed tasks. The RMB Lab is located in the SLA building on the Schwerzenbach Campus of ETH Zurich, a world-leading institute. We provide a cutting-edge work environment, well-equipped facilities with expert staff, supportive colleagues, and opportunities for innovative and dynamic projects.

We offer a competitive salary and benefits package. The funding and employment terms for this position adhere to the regulations of ETH Zurich.
