Summary
The Novartis Strategy & Growth, Therapeutic Area Strategy team for Oncology is seeking a new Therapeutic Area Strategy Director, Oncology & Hematology. This role will support the creation and update of a holistic Therapeutic Area (TA) strategy, provide early-phase commercial insights to project teams, guide TA-specific internal pipeline development and external licensing/acquisitions opportunities, and support integrated enterprise alignment across Biomedical Research (BR), Development, Strategy & Growth (S&G), and the Commercial US and International units.
About the Role
Key Responsibilities:
- Bring external benchmarking, analysis, insights, and judgment to support the TA Strategy Head in developing a holistic Novartis TA strategy that achieves sustainable growth in the short, mid, and long term.
- Utilize insights from the pharmaceutical industry and core Therapeutic Areas (TA) in Oncology & Hematology to derive competitive advantages over our peers.
- Provide key commercial insights to the R&D project teams, especially for early-phase programs, leveraging in-market experience in the US.
- Analyze reports and publications to extract essential messages, including building product forecasts.
- Support the development and delivery of TA-specific strategic external insights to identify growth opportunities and emerging competitive challenges.
Essential Requirements:
- Bachelor's degree required. An advanced degree (PhD, MD, or other advanced university degree) and/or equivalent experience in life science/healthcare; MBA or consulting experience highly preferred.
- In-depth TA knowledge (or a proven ability to acquire required TA expertise rapidly) in Oncology and Hematology.
- Ability to manage multiple strategic Disease Areas (DAs) within a TA and oversee various internal and external programs.
- Substantial experience evaluating new product opportunities (through M&A, BD&L, and internal research programs).
- At least 5-7 years of experience in the pharma and/or medical devices industry in Research & Development and/or commercial functions, with a background in conducting, commissioning, and analyzing primary research.
- Experience in strategy development and asset shaping early in the lifecycle from any functional perspective.
- Recent (post-2015) local US in-market experience; this includes working with local US customers and healthcare systems.
