Summary
The Novartis Strategy & Growth team, specifically within the Therapeutic Area Strategy for Neuroscience, is seeking a new Therapeutic Area Strategy Director. This position will play a crucial role in the development and update of a comprehensive Therapeutic Area (TA) strategy. The successful candidate will provide early-phase commercial insights to project teams, guide TA-specific internal pipeline development, and explore external licensing/acquisition opportunities while fostering alignment across Biomedical Research (BR), Development, Strategy & Growth (S&G), and Commercial units both in the US and internationally.
About the Role
Key Responsibilities:
- Leverage external benchmarking, analysis, insights, and judgment to aid the TA Strategy Head in formulating a holistic Novartis TA strategy aimed at achieving sustainable growth in the short, medium, and long term.
- Utilize in-depth knowledge of the pharmaceutical industry and the core Therapeutic Areas, particularly in Neuroscience, to identify and develop differentiating competitive advantages.
- Provide essential commercial insights to R&D project teams, especially for early-phase programs, emphasizing the importance of in-market experience in the US.
- Analyze reports and publications to extract key messages, including building product forecasts.
- Support the development and delivery of TA-specific strategic insights, identifying growth opportunities and emerging competitive challenges while commissioning targeted primary research.
Essential Requirements
- Bachelor's degree required; an advanced degree (PhD, MD, or other relevant qualifications) and/or equivalent experience in life sciences/healthcare is highly preferred. An MBA or consulting experience is also advantageous.
- In-depth knowledge of Therapeutic Areas, with the ability to rapidly acquire required expertise in Neuroscience.
- Highly adaptable and capable of managing multiple strategic Disease Areas within a Therapeutic Area simultaneously.
- Substantial experience in evaluating new product opportunities through M&A, business development, and internal research programs.
- A minimum of 5-7 years of industry experience in pharmaceuticals and/or medical devices, ideally in Research & Development and/or commercial functions, with experience commissioning and analyzing primary research.
- Experience in strategy development and asset shaping during the early lifecycle stages from various functional perspectives.
- Recent in-market experience in the US since 2015, which includes local US interactions with customers and healthcare systems.
