Summary

The Novartis Strategy & Growth, Therapeutic Area Strategy team for Neuroscience is looking for a dedicated Therapeutic Area Strategy Director. This role will support the creation and update of a comprehensive TA strategy, providing critical commercial insights to project teams, guiding TA-specific internal pipeline development, and identifying external licensing/acquisition opportunities. You will also play a vital role in fostering aligned enterprise strategies across Biomedical Research, Development, Strategy & Growth, and the Commercial US and International units.

About the Role

Key Responsibilities:

  • Provide external benchmarking, analysis, and insights to support the TA Strategy Head in developing a holistic Novartis TA strategy aimed at achieving sustainable growth in the short, mid, and long term.
  • Utilize your understanding of the pharmaceutical industry and core Therapeutic Areas, particularly within Neuroscience, to derive insightful and competitive advantages over peers.
  • Deliver key commercial insights to R&D project teams, particularly for early-phase programs, leveraging vital in-market experience in the US.
  • Analyze reports and publications to extract key messages and build product forecasts.
  • Support the development and delivery of TA-specific strategic insights to identify growth opportunities and emerging competitive challenges while facilitating third-party views around key strategic levers.

Essential Requirements:

  • Bachelor's degree required; advanced degree (PhD, MD, or other advanced University degrees) or equivalent experience in life sciences or healthcare is highly preferred.
  • In-depth knowledge of the therapeutic area, particularly in Neuroscience, or a proven track record in rapidly acquiring necessary expertise.
  • Highly adaptable, with the ability to support multiple strategic disease areas within the therapeutic area as well as various internal and external programs.
  • Substantial experience evaluating new product opportunities through M&A, BD&L, and internal research programs.
  • Between 5-7 years of experience in the pharmaceutical industry and/or medical devices within Research & Development and/or commercial functions, including the ability to conduct, commission, and analyze primary research.
  • Experience in strategy development and asset shaping early in the product lifecycle, from any functional perspective.
  • Recent local US in-market experience, including work with local US customers and healthcare systems.
