Job Title: Temporary Teacher of French

Start Date: January 2026 or earlier until the end of June 2026 (in the first instance)

Job Purpose

The ideal candidate for this position will be a native French speaker with expertise in IB Language B, preferably possessing experience in teaching Language A (Language & Literature). The chosen candidate will also have a background in IGCSE French and DELF, and should demonstrate flexibility in instructing students across various age groups. However, we encourage applications from all inspirational candidates.

The World Languages department comprises 20 full-time and part-time teachers. It is a dynamic environment that promotes teamwork, sharing of best practices, and innovative methodologies. Teachers are accountable to the relevant Head of Department/Faculty for effective class management and for the academic development and performance of students. All educators are expected to contribute significantly to the school’s community. Below, we outline the key areas of responsibility for this role. Additional duties may arise as per reasonable requests from the School Director.

This job description complements the basic duties established in the Aiglon College contract of employment, adhering to the school's policies and guiding principles, and under the direction of the School Director.

Key Tasks and Responsibilities

A. Guiding Principles and Professional Standards

  • Carry out teaching duties in alignment with the school’s Guiding Principles and Learning Framework, aiming to inspire and engage students.
  • Treat all community members, including colleagues and students, with respect and consideration, ensuring fairness and consistency without prejudice.
  • Set a positive example for students regarding appropriate dress, punctuality, and attendance.
  • Implement all school policies and procedures, particularly those concerning child safeguarding.
  • Uphold the school’s ethos and respect its Guiding Principles at all times.
  • Engage in professional development opportunities and reflect on personal teaching practices to foster continuous improvement.
  • Participate in school operations through attendance at team and staff meetings.
  • Fulfill pastoral and other duties outlined in school policies.
  • Ensure that all deadlines are adhered to, as indicated in the school calendar.
  • Attend Assembly/Meditation at least two mornings per week and contribute to Meditation once each term.
  • Proactively manage health and safety matters.
  • Support the school by attending various events within the school calendar.
  • Be actively engaged in the school’s Character Education program.

B. Teaching and Tutoring

  • Teach an average of 21 academic lessons per week, in line with departmental schemes of work and programs of study.
  • Liaise with colleagues for collaborative planning of units of work.
  • Coordinate with Aiglon’s support program for students with specific learning needs.
  • Set relevant academic targets based on students' prior attainment and baseline data.
  • Prepare students for public examinations, including marking and moderating coursework as directed.
  • Promote the use of technology in learning environments.
  • Maintain discipline and establish high behavioral expectations in the classroom and boarding setting.
  • If applicable, tutor in an assigned Boarding House, applying best practices for pastoral care.
  • Meet with tutees weekly as per tutor guidelines.
  • Assume House duties, which may include regular weekday and weekend responsibilities.

C. Assessment, Recording & Reporting

  • Maintain effective lesson plans and records of student work.
  • Mark and provide feedback on student assignments promptly, setting clear goals for future learning.
  • Participate in formative and summative student assessments in accordance with school policies.
  • Be familiar with procedures for identifying and assessing Special Educational Needs and E.A.L. requirements.
  • Contribute to the school’s assessment process and write detailed reports on student progress.
  • Support up to three students through the IB Extended Essay process, as needed.
  • Attend parents’ meetings as scheduled in the school calendar.
  • Facilitate effective communication by forwarding necessary documentation to colleagues.
  • Assist with departmental contributions to school marketing endeavors.

D. Co-Curricular Duties

  • Contribute to the school’s activities program weekly, in consultation with the Activities Coordinator.
  • Participate in the Expeditions program, including Winter and Summer Long Expeditions.
  • Engage in the annual Aiglon Discovery Trips (ADT) with the Deputy School Director.
