ETH Zurich - February 14, 2026

Technician / Engineer

80%-100%, Zurich, permanent

The Mobile Robotics Lab (MRL) at ETH Zürich is at the forefront of robot intelligence. Our mission is to develop robots that can safely explore, navigate, and interact with their environments—focusing specifically on how learned perception can inform actions in a closed loop, alongside leveraging foundation models for long-term autonomy. We are seeking a skilled lab technician/engineer to advance our vision through technical expertise in both hardware and software development.

We explore these questions through various real-world robots, including the Unitree G1 humanoid, Stretch 3, and drones. For detailed information regarding our ongoing projects, please visit our website.

Job Description

  • Design & Development: Create custom (embedded) hardware (CAD/PCB) and software solutions (Python/C/C++) to fulfill specific requirements for cutting-edge research and practical applications in taught courses.
  • Educational Support: Offer technical mentorship for student initiatives (e.g., Focus Projects), guiding them through hardware-software integration and prototyping.
  • Production & Integration: Assemble, integrate, and commission robotic systems; execute functional tests, calibrations, and troubleshooting.
  • Maintenance & Support: Sustain robotic systems post-field deployments and document all technical configurations and test protocols.
  • Logistics & Procurement: Oversee component procurement, supplier relations, and inventory control for production and laboratory supplies.
  • Safety & Compliance: Act as the safety responsible person; implement laboratory regulations, conduct risk assessments, and manage safety audits and onboarding processes.

Profile

  • Education: Degree or advanced vocational training in Mechatronics, Robotics, Electrical Engineering, or a related field.
  • Technical Expertise: Practical experience in assembling and maintaining complex robotic systems; solid understanding of mechanical, electrical, software, and control components.
  • Laboratory Skills: Skilled in using measurement tools, calibration procedures, and structured technical reporting.
  • Organization: Highly structured and detail-oriented, capable of managing multiple priorities in a dynamic research environment.
  • Communication: Strong sense of responsibility and confidence to lead safety training and instruct students and researchers.
  • Mindset: A proactive, solution-oriented "hands-on" mentality with the ability to work independently.
