This job opportunity is in the Biomedical Materials focus area at ARI, where we design advanced biomaterials and develop (bio)manufacturing technologies to enhance patient care and outcomes in musculoskeletal disorders. We are seeking a reliable and enthusiastic Senior Technician to play a crucial role in supporting our research projects by contributing to the development of novel biomaterials for regenerative medicine applications.
Main Responsibilities
Responsibilities include ensuring a safe and productive laboratory environment, conducting safety and chemical training, performing chemical synthesis, and utilizing material characterization techniques.
Key Responsibilities:
- Ensure the proper functioning of specific instruments in the Biomedical Materials laboratory (e.g., HPLC, electrospray, FTIR, rheometer), maintain related documentation (guidelines and SOPs), and provide adequate training for users.
- Support general lab processes and propose and implement improvements.
- Manage ordering systems, chemical lists, lab duties, and shipments for the group.
- Conduct scientific work and chemical synthesis, primarily involving biopolymers.
- Ensure the implementation of safety regulations within ARI laboratories.
- Familiarize yourself with and adhere to the processes, guidelines, and SOPs relevant to the work.
- Maintain the Biomedical Materials laboratory and ensure proper project-related documentation.
- Perform laboratory protocols and technical work as required in collaboration with team members.
- Teach and supervise best laboratory practices for laboratory users.
- Oversee general lab safety at ARI, ensuring a safe working environment, performing safety evaluations, and providing safety introductions for new ARI members.
- Act as a member of the AO Occupational Safety and Hygiene Committee (Be-SiBe) and serve as a delegate for environmental protection.
- Execute technical tasks autonomously in collaboration with Research/Senior Scientists, Project Leaders, and Focus Area Leaders.
- Support and comply with the ARI Quality Management System.
- Conduct sample pick-up (e.g., bovine knees) and external analyses (NMR), which may require day trips.
- Regularly present short scientific updates and new measuring equipment for the laboratory.
Main Requirements
- Qualification as a chemistry laboratory technician.
- Five or more years of professional experience in a similar role.
- Accurate, detail-oriented, and reliable.
- Proactive; capable of independent and structured functioning.
- Team player with strong communication skills.
- Fluency in English and German is essential.
- Valid driving license.
- Experience in General Lab Safety.
- Theoretical and practical experience in biopolymers chemical synthesis and characterization is advantageous.
