Join the Mobile Robotics Lab at ETH Zürich
The Mobile Robotics Lab (MRL) at ETH Zürich is on the forefront of advancing robot intelligence. Our mission is to develop robots that can safely explore, navigate, and interact with their environments. We focus on how learned perception can drive actions in a closed loop and how foundation models can be used to achieve long-term autonomy. To support our vision, we are seeking a skilled lab technician/engineer with technical expertise in hardware and software development.
Research Focus
Our investigations encompass a variety of real-world robots, including the Unitree G1 humanoid, Stretch 3, and various drones. For additional details about our ongoing projects, please visit our website.
Key Responsibilities
- Design & Development: Create custom (embedded) hardware (CAD/PCB) and software solutions (Python/C/C++) tailored to meet specific requirements in cutting-edge research and practical coursework.
- Educational Support: Provide technical mentorship to student initiatives (e.g., Focus Projects), assisting them in hardware-software integration and prototyping.
- Production & Integration: Assemble, integrate, and commission robotic systems; conduct functional tests, calibrations, and troubleshooting.
- Maintenance & Support: Ensure the upkeep of robotic systems post-field deployment and document all technical configurations and test protocols.
- Logistics & Procurement: Oversee component procurement, manage supplier relations, and control inventory for production and laboratory supplies.
- Safety & Compliance: Act as the safety officer; implement laboratory regulations, conduct risk assessments, and manage safety audits and onboarding processes.
Qualifications
- Education: Degree or advanced vocational training in Mechatronics, Robotics, Electrical Engineering, or a related field.
- Technical Expertise: Hands-on experience in assembling and maintaining complex robotic systems, with a solid understanding of mechanical, electrical, software, and control components.
- Laboratory Skills: Proficient with measurement tools, calibration procedures, and structured technical reporting.
- Organization: Highly structured and detail-oriented, with the ability to manage multiple priorities in a dynamic research environment.
- Communication: Strong sense of responsibility with the confidence to lead safety training and instruct students and researchers.
- Mindset: A proactive, solution-oriented "hands-on" mentality with the capability to work independently.
What We Offer
