Technician / Technicianess

ETH Zürich - February 14, 2026

Join the Mobile Robotics Lab (MRL) at ETH Zürich

The Mobile Robotics Lab (MRL) at ETH Zürich pushes the limits of robot intelligence. We strive to build robots that can safely explore, navigate, and interact with their environments—particularly focusing on how learned perception can drive action in a closed loop and how we can leverage foundation models for long-term autonomy. We are seeking a capable lab technician/engineer who can support our vision with technical expertise in hardware and software development.

What We Do

Our research encompasses a variety of real-world robots, including the Unitree G1 humanoid, Stretch 3, and drones. For details about our ongoing projects, please visit our website.

Your Responsibilities

  • Design & Development: Create custom (embedded) hardware (CAD/PCB) and software solutions (Python/C/C++) tailored to meet specific requirements for cutting-edge research and practical applications in courses.
  • Educational Support: Provide technical mentorship for student initiatives (e.g., Focus Projects), assisting them with hardware-software integration and prototyping.
  • Production & Integration: Assemble, integrate, and commission robotic systems; conduct functional tests, calibrations, and troubleshooting.
  • Maintenance & Support: Ensure the maintenance of robotic systems post-deployment and document all technical configurations and test protocols.
  • Logistics & Procurement: Oversee component procurement, supplier relations, and inventory control for both production and laboratory stock.
  • Safety & Compliance: Act as the safety responsible; implement laboratory regulations, conduct risk assessments, and manage safety audits and onboarding.

Qualifications

  • Education: Degree or advanced vocational training in Mechatronics, Robotics, Electrical Engineering, or a related field.
  • Technical Expertise: Hands-on experience in assembling and maintaining complex robotic systems; a solid understanding of mechanical, electrical, software, and control components.
  • Laboratory Skills: Proficiency with measurement tools, calibration procedures, and structured technical reporting.
  • Organization: Highly structured and detail-oriented, with the ability to manage multiple priorities in a dynamic research environment.
  • Communication: A strong sense of responsibility and the confidence to lead safety training, instructing students and researchers.
  • Mindset: A proactive, solution-oriented "hands-on" mentality, with the capability to work independently.

Why Join Us?

  • Engage in cutting-edge research in collaboration with academic and industrial partners.
  • Be part of a collaborative, multidisciplinary team that bridges research theory and robotics in real-world applications.
  • Work in modern lab facilities with flexible conditions in a leading-edge research environment.
  • We promote diversity by offering flexible working hours and the possibility of part-time arrangements.
