Join the Mobile Robotics Lab at ETH Zürich
The Mobile Robotics Lab (MRL) at ETH Zürich is at the forefront of advancing robot intelligence. Our mission is to develop robots that can safely explore, navigate, and interact with their environments. We focus on the interplay between learned perception and action in a closed loop, and on leveraging foundation models for long-term autonomy. We are currently seeking a skilled lab technician/engineer to support our vision with technical expertise in hardware and software development.
Your Role
In our lab, we investigate real-world robotic systems such as the Unitree G1 humanoid, Stretch 3, and various drones. The successful candidate will engage in the following key activities:
- Design & Development: Create custom embedded hardware (CAD/PCB) and software solutions (Python/C/C++) to meet specific research and educational needs.
- Educational Support: Provide technical mentorship for student initiatives (e.g., Focus Projects), aiding in hardware-software integration and prototyping.
- Production & Integration: Assemble, integrate, and commission robotic systems, ensuring functional tests, calibrations, and troubleshooting are conducted.
- Maintenance & Support: Oversee the maintenance of robotic systems after field deployments, documenting all technical configurations and test protocols.
- Logistics & Procurement: Manage component procurement, supplier relations, and inventory control for production and laboratory needs.
- Safety & Compliance: Act as the safety responsible by implementing laboratory regulations, conducting risk assessments, and managing safety audits and onboarding.
What We Are Looking For
- Education: A degree or advanced vocational training in Mechatronics, Robotics, Electrical Engineering, or a related field.
- Technical Expertise: Hands-on experience in assembling and maintaining complex robotic systems, with a solid understanding of mechanical, electrical, software, and control components.
- Laboratory Skills: Proficiency with measurement tools, calibration procedures, and structured technical reporting.
- Organization: Highly structured and detail-oriented, capable of managing multiple priorities in a dynamic research environment.
- Communication: Strong sense of responsibility with the confidence to lead safety training and instruct students and researchers.
- Mindset: A proactive, solution-oriented, “hands-on” mentality, with the ability to work independently.
What We Offer
- Engage in cutting-edge research in collaboration with academic and industrial partners.
- Be part of a collaborative, multidisciplinary team bridging research theory and practical robotics.
- Work in modern lab facilities with flexible conditions in a leading-edge research environment.
- Enjoy diversity through flexible working hours and the possibility of part-time arrangements.
We look forward to receiving your online application using the form below.
Please note that only applications matching the job profile will be considered.
