Role Purpose

The Technical Project Leader (TPL) is responsible for formulating and executing a scientifically sound and business-driven technical project strategy for Technical Research & Development (TRD). This includes financial planning, risk assessments, and contingency planning aligned with the overall Research & Development Project Team strategy and TRD objectives. The TPL will oversee the TRD development of Mixed Modality, Small Molecule, and/or Biologics projects while effectively leading, representing, managing, and supporting the CMC team to ensure alignment with various departments and third parties as necessary.

  • Establishes technical development plans in line with project priority classifications and clinical readouts, taking into account overall portfolio priorities.
  • Possesses advanced skills to identify, assess, manage, and communicate CMC/program risks, handling complex issues effectively.
  • Provides both drug development and technical expertise, encouraging creativity and challenging the status quo.
  • Supports Senior TPL for defined work packages on complex late-phase programs.

Interfaces

  • Actively participates in boards and leads discussions within leadership teams.
  • Collaborates with various stakeholders to find optimal solutions and build consensus.
  • Shares knowledge within the CMC community through lessons learned sessions.
  • Contributes to Global Project Team activities beyond CMC line functions and manages complexities in disease area GPTs.

People

  • Enhances stakeholder management skills while bringing forward sound proposals and sharing learned lessons.
  • Anticipates setbacks and maintains control, recovering quickly from challenges.
  • Exhibits servant leadership by mentoring junior TPLs and team members, fostering their professional and personal growth.

Generic Activities

  • Leads CMC teams in a matrix setup, ensuring effective communication and transparency.
  • Acts as the liaison for CMC topics among the Global Project Team and other functions.
  • Adjusts communication based on the audience's technical knowledge and maintains financial oversight.
  • Takes responsibility for the outcomes of team efforts, adapting priorities as needed to ensure success.

Ideal Background

Education

Advanced degree in life science, engineering, or a related field.

Languages

Fluent in English.

Experience/Professional Requirements

  • A minimum of 2-3 years of relevant experience as a functional project leader or Associate TPL.
  • Strong scientific/technical knowledge of Small Molecules or Biologics, ideally with Mixed Modalities experience.
  • Fundamental knowledge of GMP and regulatory requirements with cross-functional knowledge related to drug development.
  • Completion of basic project management training is preferred.
