Role Purpose
The Technical Project Leader (TPL) formulates and drives a scientifically sound and business-driven technical project strategy for Technical Research & Development (TRD). This includes financial planning, risk assessments, and contingency planning aligned with the overall Research & Development Project Team strategy and TRD objectives. The TPL will lead the TRD development of Mixed Modality, Small Molecule, and/or Biologics projects while managing and supporting the CMC team. The TPL ensures alignment with various departments and functions inside and outside of TRD, as well as third parties as appropriate.
About the Role
Strategy
- Establishes technical development plans in line with project priority classification, gated by clinical readouts as appropriate, while considering overall portfolio priorities.
- Exhibits advanced skills to identify, assess, manage, and communicate CMC and program risks, adeptly handling complex project issues with junior CMC team members.
- Provides drug development expertise, challenges the status quo, fosters creativity within the team, and continuously supports the Global Project Team decisions.
- For complex late-phase programs, supports the Senior TPL for defined work packages.
Interfaces
- Participates in boards and can lead discussions within leadership teams, fostering collaboration across external and internal stakeholders.
- Consider multiple stakeholder perspectives to find optimal solutions and build commitment and consensus.
- Shares industry knowledge, contributing lessons learned to the CMC community and influencing the Global Project Team.
- Actively contributes to Global Project Team beyond CMC functions, managing complexities and senior management exposure competently.
People
- Learns to manage teams and stakeholders, proposing sound solutions while sharing lessons learned.
- Anticipates setbacks, maintains control, and recovers quickly from challenges.
- Exhibits servant leadership by mentoring junior TPLs and supporting team members in their professional growth.

- Acts as a liaison between the Global Project Team, CMC functions, and boards to support effective decision-making.
- Adjusts communication based on audience needs while maintaining budget oversight and accountability.
- Takes responsibility for team successes and failures, holding self and team accountable for outcomes.
Ideal Background
Education
Advanced degree in life science, engineering, or equivalent.
Languages
Fluent in English.
Experience/Professional Requirement
- Demonstrated several years (minimum of 2-3 years) of directly related experience as a functional project leader or relevant experience as Associate TPL or equivalent.
- Strong scientific/technical knowledge and understanding of technical development tasks for Small Molecules or Biologics, with mixed modalities being ideal.
- Fundamental knowledge of GMP and regulatory requirements, along with solid cross-functional knowledge regarding drug development.
- Completed basic project management training and manages end-to-end technical drug development knowledge.
