Technical Platform Operations Associate / Technical Platform Operations Associate

ETH Zürich - June 19, 2025

Position Announcement: Technical Platform Operations Associate

The Decision Science Laboratory at ETH Zurich, in collaboration with the Public Policy Group and the Immigration Policy Lab, alongside the Labor Group at the University of Lausanne, invites applications for a Technical Platform Operations Associate position, scheduled to start between July and August 2025.

Path2Work is a data-driven, scalable job search platform developed by researchers at ETH Zurich and the University of Lausanne. Our mission is to facilitate the integration of refugees into the Swiss labor market while addressing the broader labor shortage in Switzerland. Currently, we are evaluating the platform’s effectiveness through a randomized controlled trial and working towards establishing a non-profit start-up to ensure the sustainable impact of Path2Work. This initiative is being developed in close collaboration with key national partners, including the State Secretariat for Migration (SEM), the State Secretariat for Economic Affairs (SECO), and a broad network of stakeholders across Switzerland.

Role Overview

We are seeking a dedicated project team member who is eager to contribute to an impact-oriented project that supports refugees in their job search within Switzerland. As an active member of our dynamic and international team of researchers and developers, you will play a crucial role in operating and further advancing the platform.

Your Main Responsibilities

  • DevOps: Support daily platform operations in collaboration with the development team, including database updates and data integrity checks.
  • Content Workflows: Implement and manage content across various languages and platform modules.
  • Technical User Support: Respond to technical inquiries and assist users during peak rollout periods.
  • Task Management: Help organize tasks based on research priorities and track progress throughout the implementation process.
  • Software Development: Implement and test new features for the platform.
  • Platform Analytics: Regularly analyze user behavior to inform improvements.

This position is based at the Decision Science Laboratory at ETH Zurich, working closely with Dr. Stefan Wehrli and the entire project team. The initial term is limited to one year due to third-party funding, with the possibility of extension based on performance and project needs. As we work toward establishing an independent non-profit organization, there is potential for a longer-term role. While permanent employment cannot be guaranteed at this stage, we are committed to building a sustainable team and hope to offer continued opportunities to strong contributors.

Candidate Profile

Strong candidates will possess most of the following qualifications:

  • Bachelor's or (preferably) Master's degree in Computer Science, Engineering, or a Social Science discipline, combined with solid engineering skills.

  • Proficient in software development, particularly with web technologies (JavaScript, HTML, CSS) and C# (.NET).
  • Data analysis skills in Python or R.
  • Experience using Git for version control and scripting in Bash or PowerShell.
  • Proactive, problem-solving attitude with the ability to work independently and collaboratively in an interdisciplinary team.
  • Fluency in English; knowledge of German is a plus.
  • Interest in applied research and developing digital solutions for social impact.

What We Offer

  • An opportunity to engage with an impact-oriented, research-driven project supporting refugee integration into the Swiss labor market.
