ETH Zürich - June 17, 2025

D-GESS, Decision Science Laboratory

The Public Policy Group, the Immigration Policy Lab, and the Decision Science Laboratory at ETH Zurich, along with the Labor Group at the University of Lausanne, are excited to announce a vacancy for a Technical Platform Operations Associate to start between July 2025 and August 2025.

About Path2Work

Path2Work is a data-driven, scalable job search platform developed by researchers at ETH Zurich and the University of Lausanne. Our mission is to support the integration of refugees into the Swiss labor market while addressing the broader labor shortage in Switzerland. We are currently assessing the platform’s effectiveness through a randomized controlled trial and are in the process of founding a non-profit start-up to ensure the sustainable impact of Path2Work. This project is being developed in close collaboration with key national partners, including the State Secretariat for Migration (SEM), the State Secretariat for Economic Affairs (SECO), and a broad network of stakeholders across Switzerland.

Role and Responsibilities

We are seeking a dedicated team member eager to contribute to this impactful project. As part of a dynamic and international team of researchers and developers, you will help operate and further advance the Path2Work platform. Your main responsibilities will include:

  • DevOps: Support daily platform operations in collaboration with the development team, perform database updates and data integrity checks.
  • Content Workflows: Implement and manage content across languages and platform modules.
  • Technical User Support: Respond to technical user inquiries and provide assistance during peak rollout periods.
  • Task Management: Aid the development team in organizing tasks based on research priorities and track progress throughout the implementation process.
  • Software Development: Implement and test new features.
  • Platform Analytics: Analyze user behavior on a regular basis.

Location and Employment Conditions

This position is based at the Decision Science Laboratory at ETH Zurich, working closely with Dr. Stefan Wehrli and the entire team. The initial term is limited to one year due to third-party funding, with a possibility of extension based on performance and project needs. As we move towards establishing an independent non-profit organization, opportunities for a longer-term role may arise. While we cannot guarantee permanent employment at this stage, we are committed to developing a sustainable team and hope to provide ongoing opportunities for strong contributors.

Ideal Candidate Profile

Strong candidates will preferably possess:

  • A Bachelor's or Master's degree in Computer Science, Engineering, or a Social Science discipline, combined with solid engineering skills.
  • 1–2 years of relevant work experience, ideally in software development or applied research projects.
  • Proficiency in software development with web technologies (JavaScript, HTML, CSS) and C# (.NET).
  • Data analysis skills using Python or R.
  • Experience utilizing Git for version control and scripting in Bash or PowerShell.
  • A proactive, problem-solving attitude with the ability to work independently and collaboratively within an interdisciplinary team.
  • Fluency in English; German language skills are a plus.
  • A genuine interest in applied research and developing digital solutions for social impact.

What We Offer

  • The opportunity to work on an impact-oriented, research-driven project supporting the integration of refugees into the Swiss labor market.
