The Institute for Virtual Manufacturing (IVP) is seeking a Technical Expert in Experimental Solid Mechanics. We are in search of a seasoned professional with a robust background in mechanical testing and design, eager to contribute to groundbreaking research with direct industrial relevance.
IVP conducts academic research at the highest international levels while maintaining strong connections with industry. Our research tackles critical challenges in materials and structural mechanics, encompassing both manufacturing processes and behaviors under extreme loading conditions. A primary focus of our work is the development of digital twins—virtual models of mechanical systems that evolve alongside their physical counterparts throughout their operational life cycle.
This hands-on position requires high manual dexterity and technical versatility. You will transition frequently between tasks such as computational modeling, computer-aided design, manual and CNC machining, and experimental testing on small-scale components. As an integral member of our team, you will engage in projects from concept through implementation, focusing on the mechanical characterization of advanced materials and the design of original testing devices.
You will collaborate closely with professors, researchers, postdoctoral fellows, and both graduate and undergraduate students. Your role will involve mentoring student projects, coordinating with scientific staff, and presenting complex technical solutions to our industrial partners. Additionally, you will contribute to preparing technical proposals and quotations for mechanical testing services provided by IVP.
This position is ideal for candidates with a Master's degree or PhD in Mechanical Engineering, Materials Science, or a related field. We seek an individual with demonstrated expertise in experimental solid mechanics, mechanical design, and dynamic material testing. A deep understanding of solid mechanics, experience with CAD and FEA tools, and proficiency in machining are essential. Solid hands-on experience in building and maintaining experimental facilities is crucial, and familiarity with advanced experimental and machining techniques is highly valued.
