The Institute for Geochemistry and Petrology (IGP) at the Department of Earth and Planetary Sciences is seeking a highly-skilled and experienced Technical Expert in Experimental Mineral Physics. We are looking for an individual with a robust background in laser spectroscopic methods (Brillouin-, Raman-scattering, FT-IR), as well as lab- and synchrotron-based X-ray diffraction techniques. The ideal candidate will also have expertise in high-pressure and high-temperature experimental methods, including laser-heated and externally-heated diamond anvil cells, large volume presses, and piston-cylinder apparatus. This is an exciting opportunity to contribute to groundbreaking research in mineralogy and the dynamics and evolution of deep planetary interiors.
The Experimental Mineral Physics group employs high-pressure and high-temperature experimental methods, primarily using a laser-heated diamond anvil cell technique to recreate deep Earth's conditions in the laboratory. The group aims to accomplish the following key research objectives:
By integrating the insights gained from these research efforts, the group aspires to propose a universal internal evolution model for planets.
We welcome candidates who are proactive, detail-oriented, and passionate about fostering scientific research and education. The ideal applicant will possess:
This position is ideally suited for a self-motivated individual eager to thrive in a collaborative environment and contribute significantly to research capabilities while supporting the academic development of students and colleagues.
