Celonic boasts a state-of-the-art Development and Innovation Center in Basel, Switzerland (our headquarters), along with clinical and commercial GMP manufacturing facilities in Heidelberg, Germany.

We offer a comprehensive suite of services, including cell line development, production process optimization, and full-scale GMP manufacturing of biopharmaceutical active ingredients such as antibodies, bispecifics, and other complex proteins. The Position

The Team Manager Development & Process Optimization will take on project and team accountability, ensuring the quality and timely delivery of both customer and internal programs. This leader will manage a cross-functional team of Technicians and Scientists (USP & DSP background) within the Development & Process Optimization (D&PO) group of the Biologics Development Center. Collaboration with the leadership team, the Biologics Development Center, and the Heidelberg manufacturing site is essential for leading projects from start to finish.

Key Responsibilities

Reporting to the Director of Development & Process Optimization, the Team Manager D&PO will:

  • Lead customer programs from initiation through to manufacturing execution, representing the company in customer meetings and facilitating effective communication with internal and external partners.
  • Guide, assess, and coach direct reports to foster scientific rigor and discipline in program delivery while exemplifying high standards in hiring, coaching, and performance management.
  • Set priorities and allocate resources efficiently to meet deadlines and commitments, ensuring seamless collaboration with critical functions (Technical, Quality, Regulatory, Program Management, Engineering, Supply Chain, etc.) and governance of Project Teams.
  • Enhance BDC processes and communication to improve professionalism while minimizing unnecessary bureaucracy, promoting an agile and results-oriented culture that balances technical and business needs.
  • Ensure adherence to good laboratory practices and HSE regulations within Celonic facilities, while fulfilling all other activities as requested by the Director of Development & Process Optimization.

Job Requirements

  • 5+ years of direct experience in Biologics, CDMO, and regulated organizations.
  • Master’s degree in an engineering or life sciences-related field.
  • A proven track record of managing complex matrix organizations and cross-functional programs.
  • An effective leader of direct lines and matrix teams, with skills as an excellent motivator and coach.
  • A highly collaborative approach, both internally and with external partners.
  • A results-driven attitude, energized by challenges, and unafraid to take calculated risks.
  • A strong sense of ownership and responsibility.
  • Demonstrated ability to work autonomously and with self-discipline to meet timelines.
  • Proficient in Microsoft Office applications.
  • Fluent in English; knowledge of German is a plus.
