The Maintenance Team Lead for mechanics, electric, and automation for afternoon and evening shifts is responsible for leading and overseeing the maintenance operations at the Lengnau facility during these hours.

This role involves supervising a team of specialists in mechanics & utilities, instrumentation & electrics, and automation to ensure efficient operation and maintenance of equipment while maintaining compliance with GMP standards.

The Team Lead will also play a pivotal role in troubleshooting issues, coordinating with other departments, and ensuring smooth operations across teams. Additionally, this role is tasked with providing crucial afternoon and evening support for manufacturing operations, addressing any breakdowns that could affect manufacturing batches. Note that this position explicitly covers afternoon and evening activities from 13:00 to 22:00, Monday to Friday.

Position Responsibilities & Accountabilities

Technical Responsibilities

  • Lead Afternoon and Evening Maintenance Team:
    • Supervise and lead a team of four direct reports, including a Mechanical & Utilities Specialist, Instrumentation & Electrics Specialist, and Automation Specialist.
    • Assign tasks, inspect work, and provide guidance and support.
  • Support Manufacturing Operations: Provide afternoon and evening support for manufacturing operations, addressing equipment breakdowns to ensure minimal disruption to production.
  • Ensure Equipment Reliability: Oversee maintenance and repair of all equipment for optimal performance, including process equipment, utilities, instrumentation, and automation systems.
  • Troubleshoot and Resolve Issues: Respond swiftly to equipment issues during the afternoon and evening shift, implementing effective solutions to minimize downtime and maintain production efficiency.
  • Coordinate with Other Departments: Collaborate closely with other departments to align maintenance activities with production schedules and priorities.
  • Maintain Compliance: Ensure all maintenance activities comply with GMP standards and safety regulations while documenting work performed and maintaining accurate records.
  • Support Continuous Improvement: Identify opportunities for process enhancements and implement changes to boost maintenance efficiency and effectiveness.

Train and Develop Team

  • Provide training and development opportunities for team members to enhance their skills and knowledge.
  • Conduct regular performance reviews and offer constructive feedback.

Manage Team Handover

  • Ensure a smooth handover between morning and afternoon/evening team by documenting and communicating ongoing issues, completed tasks, and upcoming priorities.

Quality

  • Adhere to general cGMP rules and Quality policies as endorsed by site management.
  • Actively contribute to continuous quality improvement initiatives and deviation reporting.

EHSS

  • Follow all safety rules, policies, procedures, and instructions as outlined by EHSS functions and endorsed by site management.
  • Actively engage in safety initiatives and report near misses.

Position Qualifications

Education

  • Bachelor’s degree in Engineering or a related field (or equivalent experience).

Experience & Competences

  • Minimum of 3-5 years in maintenance management, preferably in a GMP manufacturing facility.
  • Proven experience supervising maintenance teams and managing complex operations.
  • Documented success in ensuring equipment reliability and maintaining compliance with regulatory standards.
  • Strong understanding of GMP standards and maintenance practices.
  • Excellent leadership and team management skills.
  • Exceptional troubleshooting and problem-solving abilities.
  • Strong communication and interpersonal skills for effective collaboration with cross-functional teams.
