Position Overview

The Maintenance Team Lead for Mechanics, Electric, and Automation for the afternoon and evening shifts is responsible for overseeing maintenance operations at our Lengnau facility.

This role involves supervising a team of specialists in mechanics & utilities, instrumentation & electrics, and automation, ensuring the efficient operation and maintenance of equipment while upholding compliance with GMP standards. The Team Lead will also play a crucial role in troubleshooting issues, coordinating with other departments, and ensuring smooth collaboration across teams during operations. This position exclusively addresses the afternoon and evening activities between 13:00 – 22:00, Monday to Friday.

Position Responsibilities

  • Lead Afternoon and Evening Maintenance Team: Supervise and guide a team of 4 direct reports, including Mechanical & Utilities Specialists, Instrumentation & Electrics Specialists, and Automation Specialists.
  • Support Manufacturing Operations: Provide essential afternoon and evening support for manufacturing operations, addressing equipment breakdowns that impact production batches to minimize disruption.
  • Ensure Equipment Reliability: Oversee maintenance and repair operations to guarantee optimal performance and reliability of all equipment, including process equipment, utilities, instrumentation, and automation systems.
  • Troubleshoot and Resolve Issues: Respond promptly to and troubleshoot equipment issues during the afternoon and evening shifts, implementing effective solutions to minimize downtime.
  • Coordinate with Other Departments: Collaborate closely with other departments to organize maintenance activities and align them with production schedules and priorities.
  • Maintain Compliance: Ensure all maintenance activities are carried out in accordance with GMP standards and safety regulations, documenting work performed and maintaining accurate records.
  • Support Continuous Improvement: Identify opportunities for process improvements and implement changes to enhance maintenance efficiency.
  • Train and Develop Team: Foster training and development opportunities for team members, conduct regular performance reviews, and provide constructive feedback.
  • Manage Team Handover: Ensure smooth transitions between shifts by documenting and communicating ongoing issues, completed tasks, and upcoming priorities.

Quality and Compliance

  • Comply with general cGMP rules and Quality policies as directed by the Quality function and endorsed by site management.
  • Actively engage in continuous quality improvement initiatives and deviation reporting.
  • Follow general safety rules as laid out by the EHSS functions, championing safety initiatives and reporting near misses.
  • Demonstrate commitment to Thermo Fisher Scientific's values and uphold ethics and legal compliance standards.

Position Qualifications

  • Bachelor’s degree in Engineering or a related field (or equivalent experience).

Experience and Competencies

  • Minimum of 3-5 years of experience in maintenance management, preferably in a GMP manufacturing environment.
  • Proven experience in supervising maintenance teams and managing complex operations.
  • Proficient in ensuring equipment reliability and maintaining regulatory compliance.
  • Strong grasp of GMP standards and maintenance practices.
  • Exceptional leadership and team management skills.
  • Excellent troubleshooting and problem-solving capabilities.
  • Strong communication and interpersonal skills, with the ability to collaborate effectively with cross-functional teams.
