Teaching Assistant, Chair of Architecture & Care

ETH Zurich - September 12, 2025

Teaching Assistant, Chair of Architecture & Care, Prof. Anna Puigjaner

40%, Zurich, fixed-term

Care. is a research and educational project launched in 2023 at the ETH Zürich Department of Architecture, chaired by Prof. Anna Puigjaner. This innovative initiative explores how architecture can promote interdependent care, with a particular focus on non-conforming bodies through theoretical and design-based approaches.

The project critically examines established spatial norms shaped by assumptions of "normality" and aims to dismantle unequal care regimes. By acknowledging diverse body dispositions, including aging, neurodivergence, gender, and race, Care. seeks to rethink the built environment beyond heteronormative and ableist frameworks.

Our objective is to foster a form of architecture that transcends binaries such as caregiver/care receiver and ability/disability, advocating for spatial practices rooted in mutual care, interdependence, and intersectionality.

Project Background

For our upcoming bachelor and master's design studio, we are seeking a part-time teaching assistant (40%, teaching days Tuesday and Wednesday) to join our team as soon as possible (latest beginning of October) for a fixed term of 5 months, with the possibility of extension. The course language is English.

Under the title Public House, we will explore communal domestic care infrastructures within an under-used parking space in Zurich. Our focus will be on deconstructing and rethinking traditional residential spaces, transforming areas such as bedrooms and toilets into public and shared environments while constructing 1:1 floor plans and spatial fragments directly within the parking structure.

As a member of our team, you will play a vital role in course preparation and student engagement, which includes providing inputs, tutorials, organizing lectures, and facilitating discussions.

  • Architect with 2-3 years of experience
  • Preferably at the early stages of starting their own practice
