Job Description

We are seeking an enthusiastic Teacher of Chemistry to join our beautiful all-through 4-18 international boarding school located in the stunning Swiss Alps. In this role, you will have the opportunity to inspire and engage students across a diverse age and ability range.

Main Duties

  • Teach across the age and ability spectrum, adapting lessons to meet the needs of each individual student.
  • Contribute to the broader school community through participation in sporting events, extracurricular activities (ECAs), and other enrichment opportunities.
  • Be an integral part of our Science Department.
  • Engage in boarding life and activities.
  • Pursue your own professional development and growth.
  • Mentor a small group of learners, monitoring their achievements and wellbeing.
  • Manage departmental resources, ensuring a safe, clean, and organized working environment at all times.
  • Demonstrate a clear commitment to the safeguarding of all young people.
  • Complete subject-related administrative tasks as needed and participate in departmental meetings.
  • Follow the school’s assessment and reporting processes, attending parents' meetings as required.

Person Specification

  • A good honours degree and/or a further degree in a directly related subject.
  • A strong commitment to promoting equality, diversity, and inclusion.
  • A passion for the subject, with the ability to inspire and engage others.
  • An openness to embracing developments and innovations in teaching, with a willingness to experiment with new practices.
  • Willingness to supervise learners completing the MYP Personal Project or the DP Extended Essay.
  • Excellent written and verbal communication skills, with English as a native language.
  • A shared educational vision with La Garenne International School, including a holistic approach to education, and a desire to contribute to co-curricular and pastoral aspects of school life.
  • Strong interpersonal skills to build relationships and collaborate effectively with colleagues and school leadership.
  • Proficiency in ICT, with a readiness to embrace new technologies.
  • A positive outlook, an optimistic approach to change and development, and a good sense of humour.
