10%-30%, Zurich, fixed-term
At the Energy and Process Systems Engineering (EPSE) group, we specialize in developing automated experimental setups for measuring vapor-liquid equilibria (VLE), liquid-liquid equilibria (LLE), and diffusion coefficients—critical data for designing and optimizing chemical processes. Conventional experiments can often be time- and resource-intensive, especially for multicomponent mixtures. To address this challenge, our group is innovating miniaturized systems that utilize in-situ Raman spectroscopy to swiftly determine phase compositions in small sample volumes.
The current project aims to further advance our automated platforms designed for measuring thermophysical properties. We are integrating sample preparation, handling, and the fully automated execution of equilibrium and transport-property experiments utilizing milli- and microfluidic setups, in combination with Raman spectroscopy. The automatically generated data from these platforms are essential for accelerating the design of novel chemical processes, including plastic recycling.
We are seeking an ETH student who is interested in designing and building experimental setups, conducting experiments, and assisting with general lab duties starting around February 2026. Typical tasks include:
