Student Assistant - Teaching Support for Economics Course

20%-30%, Zurich, fixed-term

We are seeking a motivated and detail-oriented student assistant to support the preparation of teaching materials for a graduate-level economics course. This position is ideal for students with strong technical and organizational skills, particularly those with experience in LaTeX and Python programming. A background in economics is a plus but not strictly required.

Project Background

The assistant will collaborate with the instructor to typeset lecture slides, support the development of problem sets, and create other presentation materials. The course involves formal modeling and applied computational techniques, combining tasks in typesetting (LaTeX) and coding (Python).

Job Description

  • Typeset and format lecture notes and problem sets using LaTeX
  • Assist in developing and editing Jupyter Notebooks for classroom use

Profile

  • Enrolled in a Bachelor’s or Master’s program at ETH Zürich or the University of Zürich
  • Proficiency in LaTeX (required)
  • Python programming skills (numerical simulations; plotting) (required)
  • Familiarity with Jupyter Notebooks, NumPy, matplotlib, or similar packages (preferred)
  • Interest or background in economics or quantitative social sciences (preferred)
  • Strong attention to detail, reliability, and independence
  • Experience with version control (e.g., Git) is a plus

Workplace

This position offers a comfortable workspace with flexible working hours. Remote work is possible, though office presence is preferred.
