About IPPNW-GLO
IPPNW-GLO is a Geneva-based non-profit association founded in February 2023 to advance the mission of IPPNW, a global non-partisan federation of national medical organizations dedicated to research, education, and advocacy relevant to the prevention of nuclear war and the promotion of peace. IPPNW is a registered US charity with headquarters in Boston.
Founded by US and Soviet physicians in 1980, IPPNW won the Nobel Peace Prize in 1985. It is the founding member organization of the International Campaign to Abolish Nuclear Weapons (ICAN), which received the Nobel Peace Prize in 2017, and continues to serve on the ICAN Steering Group. IPPNW holds ECOSOC status at the United Nations, maintains Official Relations with the World Health Organization (WHO), and collaborates closely with international health and civil society groups, many of which are based in Geneva.
About the Position
The IPPNW-GLO Director is responsible for the overall strategic and operational management of staff, programs, and mission execution for IPPNW-GLO. Key responsibilities include managing stakeholder and donor relations while collaborating with international organizations, governments, and the media. In this role, you will work closely with the Executive Director of IPPNW and the office staff in Boston, along with IPPNW affiliates within our federation. The Board and General Assembly of IPPNW-GLO provide broad oversight and support to the GLO Director. This is a full-time position based in Geneva.
Job Objectives and Responsibilities
Your main deliverables will focus on:
- Resource Mobilization and Development: Develop and implement a fundraising strategy to ensure the financial sustainability of the organization and assist in the overall development of the IPPNW federation.
- Representation and Public Relations: Ensure that IPPNW-GLO and the IPPNW federation are effectively represented to achieve their mission and programmatic goals.
- Resource Management: Lead the organization’s financial affairs, ensuring efficient fiscal management and assisting the Board in fulfilling its legal and fiduciary responsibilities.
- Leadership and Strategic Planning: In conjunction with IPPNW, develop and execute IPPNW-GLO strategies, supporting educational and advocacy activities related to the catastrophic humanitarian impacts of nuclear weapons, the urgent moral and medical imperative of abolishing these weapons, and other multifaceted threats such as militarism, war, climate change, and artificial intelligence.
- Human Resources: Recruit, structure, inspire, and lead an effective and diverse Geneva-based staff team, focusing on a common vision, clear goals, transparency, and effective internal coordination and communication.
- Governance: Inform and consult with IPPNW staff and leadership, as well as the IPPNW-GLO Board and General Assembly, to support governance.
Qualifications
- University degree or equivalent experience in non-profit management, public relations, fundraising, advocacy, nuclear disarmament, international relations, political science, or a related field.
- Strong management skills with a minimum of five (5) years in a managerial role preferred.
- Proven fundraising track record across diverse channels, including foundations, individuals, and governments.
- A minimum of five (5) years of experience in influencing policy (advocacy), ideally at the international level and within a United Nations context.
- In-depth knowledge of global issues related to nuclear weapons and arms control and disarmament is strongly preferred.
- Demonstrated sharp strategic and policy insights with strong analytical and synthesizing abilities.
- Proven ability to work effectively in a multicultural environment and exhibit gender-responsive and non-discriminatory behaviors.
- Excellent writing skills, particularly in content and foundation proposal writing.
- Strong interpersonal, networking, and representation skills.
- A solid commitment to teamwork and collaborative efforts.
- An impeccable record for integrity and professional ethical standards.
- Fluent in English; knowledge of a second language is desirable.
