SonarSource Sàrl Vernier October 22, 2026

Who is Sonar?

Sonar is paving the way for the future of agent-centric software development. As a leader in AI code verification and governance, we address a critical challenge: ensuring that software generated by AI-assisted developers or autonomous agents is both reliable and maintainable.

Integrating seamlessly with Claude Code, Codex, Cursor, GitHub Copilot, Gemini, and Devin, we assist over 75% of the Fortune 100 in building trusted, reliable, and compliant software. Customers using Sonar are 44% less likely to report outages due to AI-generated code.

We believe that code verification is the essential missing link in the Agent-Centric Development Cycle (AC/DC). Industry giants such as Nvidia, ServiceNow, Booking.com, Goldman Sachs, AstraZeneca, and Ford Motor Company rely on us for independent, explainable, and consistent review and governance of their AI-generated code through our innovative products, including:

  • SonarQube: The world’s leading AI code review and verification platform.
  • SonarQube Foundation Agent: Currently leading the way in agentic software repair.
  • SonarSweep & Sonar Context Augmentation: Providing the enterprise-grade context and constraints agents need to operate effectively.

Our team operates from global hubs in Austin, Bochum, Dubai, Geneva, London, Singapore, Tokyo, and Washington D.C. Our approach is guided by a mindset we call CODE:

  • Committed to our customers and community.
  • Obsessed with quality.
  • Deliberate in our decisions.
  • Effective as one team.

With over $400M in revenue and strong, profitable growth, we are building the backbone of the AI software revolution. If you're eager to make an impact and ready to work at the forefront of AI, we want to hear from you.

Position Description

We are seeking a highly impactful Staff Engineer to join the Identity Squad within our StoreFront department. The Identity squad is the cornerstone of trust and access across Sonar's product ecosystem, responsible for all aspects related to authentication (AuthN) and authorization (AuthZ) for all of Sonar’s products. We operate services at scale, handling thousands of requests per second.

As a Staff Engineer, you will architect robust, scalable, and highly secure identity solutions that seamlessly bridge our cloud and self-managed offerings. Additionally, you will play a crucial role in mentoring other engineers, helping them grow in their skills and expand their impact.

You will partner closely with Product Managers, Engineering Managers, and other Staff/Principal Engineers to lead the end-to-end delivery of critical identity features. You will take ownership of major initiatives—from initial architecture and design to implementation and deployment—ensuring a frictionless and highly secure experience for millions of developers.

What You Will Do

  • Collaborate with UX designers, Product Management, and engineering teams to deliver robust security features alongside an optimal user experience.
  • Take strong ownership of squad deliverables and effectively drive sprints toward successful completion.
  • Architect and guide the design of our on-premises and AWS cloud applications.
  • Oversee feature deployment, monitor production, and troubleshoot issues specific to the team.
  • Mentor engineering team members to enhance their technical skills and remove blockers to their autonomy.
  • Contribute to defining the team’s short and long-term goals.

Experience and Qualifications

  • Over 8 years of software engineering experience, including roles as a Tech Lead, Staff Engineer, or Software Architect.
  • Proven ability to take initiative and drive complex projects involving multiple stakeholders to completion with minimal supervision.
  • Experience supporting and mentoring team members.
  • Proficiency in Java, paired with a strong commitment to Clean Code and high software quality standards.
  • Extensive experience with architecting cloud-native applications.
  • Familiarity with relational databases (e.g., Postgres) and SQL.
  • Domain expertise in Identity and Access Management (IAM), including hands-on experience with AuthN/AuthZ protocols (OAuth2, OIDC, SAML, JWT) and user provisioning (SCIM).
  • Experience working with and guiding AI coding tools (Codex, Claude, etc.).

In-Office Culture

We believe in the value of in-person collaboration. Our team engages in three anchor days—Mondays, Tuesdays, and Thursdays—to foster a collaborative rhythm vital to our hub office environment. Candidates should be based in the location where the role is posted; if this is not currently your situation, we are open to supporting relocation for the right candidate.

Our Commitment to Diversity

At Sonar, we recognize that diversity is our strength. We are a global company that values various backgrounds, perspectives, and cultures. We strive to create a diverse and inclusive work environment where everyone feels valued and empowered to contribute their best. We are proud to be an equal opportunity employer and welcome all qualified applicants, regardless of race, color, religion, gender, gender identity or expression, sexual orientation, national origin, genetics, disability, age, or veteran status.
