At Magic Leap, be part of a united team where everyone is empowered and trusted to make an impact. Here, you can explore innovative solutions and harness your talents to address real-world challenges. Working alongside industry experts, you will have the opportunity to grow your skills and amplify human potential at the intersection of the physical and digital worlds. We believe that successful change and progress are driven by diverse perspectives. As we shape our future, every voice matters. Together, we can reimagine the world of work and, in collaboration with our bold partners, make the impossible possible.

The Opportunity

As a Human Vision Scientist within our Quantified Experience group, you will collaborate closely with other scientists and engineers across various teams to enhance the user experience of augmented reality devices. Your work will inform hardware design decisions and help develop new models of human visual perception. The ideal candidate will leverage their extensive knowledge of human visual perception, particularly in color vision, to advise the team on addressing issues of color uniformity and binocular color vision, making a direct impact on the development of cutting-edge augmented reality products.

What You’ll Do

  • Develop and apply models of human color vision and verify these models with empirical data.
  • Plan and conduct psychophysical studies with human observers, adhering to all human-subject research regulations.
  • Research, develop, and facilitate the integration of color calibration algorithms (including white balance correction and color mixing).
  • Characterize, model, and analyze the performance of displays and imaging systems based on color metrics.
  • Collaborate with internal and external stakeholders to bridge communication gaps, clarify requirements, identify risks, and support transparent data exchange.
  • Conduct literature reviews on selected topics in Vision Science relevant to XR.
  • Perform statistical analyses of experimental and sensor data.

The Experience You Bring

  • 8+ years of professional experience in Human Vision Science within a technological or academic environment.
  • PhD or equivalent in Human Vision Science, Psychology, Color Science, Neuroscience, or related fields.
  • Working knowledge of colorimetry, including display calibrations and standard color spaces.
  • Scientific background in human color vision, including models of color adaptation and chromatic contrast sensitivity.
  • Experience working with cross-functional teams and providing leadership and expertise on new projects.
  • Fluency in Matlab and/or Python, digital image processing, and statistical analyses.
  • Excellent communication, presentation, organization, and documentation skills.

It’s Exciting If You Also Have

  • Published work in an area of human vision science.
  • Knowledge of C#/C++.
