About the Company
ANAVIA specializes in the design, development, and manufacturing of vertical takeoff and landing (VTOL) systems weighing up to 500 kilograms. We provide industry-leading unmanned helicopter systems tailored for various mission profiles, including Surveillance and Reconnaissance, Inspection, Mapping, and Cargo transport.
Qualifications
- Education: Bachelor's degree in Computer Science, Electrical/Computer Engineering, Mechatronics, Aerospace Engineering, or a related field. A Master's degree or advanced qualification is preferred.
- Experience: Hands-on experience programming for microcontrollers in real-time embedded environments, preferably within the aviation, space, or autonomous systems industries.
- Safety-Critical Systems: Familiarity with DO-178C or equivalent safety-critical software development standards. Experience supporting or leading software certification activities is a strong plus.
- Programming & Software Development: Expert-level proficiency in C for embedded real-time systems. Strong understanding of Real-Time Operating Systems (RTOS). Proficiency in scripting languages (Python, Bash) for test automation and tooling.
- Protocols: Deep knowledge of embedded communication protocols including CAN, UART, SPI, I2C, USB, and Serial. Experience with network protocols (Ethernet, UDP/TCP) in embedded contexts.
- Communication: Strong technical communication skills with the ability to articulate complex concepts clearly to cross-functional teams.
- Language: Excellent English language skills (oral and written). German is desirable.
- Eligibility: Open to Swiss or EU Nationals only.
- Location: On-site in Näfels | Bilten, Switzerland.
Key Responsibilities
- Control Software: Design and implement mission-critical low-level control software for UAV components, ensuring deterministic real-time performance.
- Communication Systems: Develop and maintain communication protocols to ensure safe and reliable interactions between all UAV components.
- Real-Time Performance: Optimize software performance within real-time operating systems where timing constraints are critical to flight safety and vehicle behavior.
- Testing Framework: Implement comprehensive test strategies across all levels (unit, integration, system) to thoroughly verify functionality, performance, and safety requirements.
- Standards Compliance: Develop software in accordance with DO-178C (or equivalent safety-critical software standards) and support certification activities throughout the development lifecycle.
- Code Reviews: Lead and participate in design and code reviews to ensure software quality and adherence to coding standards.
- System Architecture: Contribute to system-level software architecture decisions and requirements definition.
- Rapid Prototyping: Support rapid prototyping activities alongside production development to validate concepts and enable quick iterations.
- Process Enhancement: Incorporate industry best practices into development workflows, including modern CI/CD practices and automated testing strategies.

- Cross-Functional Collaboration: Work closely with flight control, hardware, test bench, and design engineering teams to integrate, debug, and optimize embedded systems.
- Full Lifecycle Ownership: Take end-to-end responsibility from requirements definition through implementation, integration, validation, and transition to production.
- Compliance: Adhere to ANAVIA’s employment contract, safety instructions, and quality manual, ensuring compliance with work instructions and process specifications.
- Travel: International travel may be required, up to 25% of working hours.
