Main Tasks

- Support the Regional Manager in designing the overall market strategy as well as the client/Line of Business (LoB) strategy within the Underwriting (UW) Planning process and ensure its efficient execution.

- Underwrite treaty P&C business in the MENA region, adhering to Echo Re UW and Pricing Guidelines.

- Assist in building a technically sound portfolio and implement measures to safeguard profitability.

- Assess the existing portfolio and identify potential new opportunities while recognizing deal risks and their drivers.

- Analyze underlying data alongside ancillary data and information, such as market intelligence reports and trends, to establish forward-looking insights.

- Provide support in various administrative roles to optimize UW processes.

- Visit markets and clients to maintain and develop relationships with both existing and new clients.

- Document the outcomes of client visits thoroughly, addressing and following up on any related issues.

- Coordinate marketing and underwriting activities with responsible Specialty line managers (Affinity, Agriculture, Credit & Surety, Engineering, Marine & Energy).

- Represent Echo Re at industry events such as conferences and seminars.

- Collaborate closely with Pricing Actuaries.

- Optimize the consumption of allocated capacities (Risk and Natural Catastrophe).

- Maintain a high level of quality in SICS administration of the portfolio alongside the market-responsible UW Assistant.

- Review and approve claims in coordination with the Claims Department, adhering to Claims Guidelines.

- Review, validate, and countersign contractual documents.

Profile

  • University degree (Bachelor's degree or higher) in Insurance, Economics, Business, Mathematics/Actuarial Sciences, Law, Natural Sciences, or a recognized postgraduate degree in Insurance/Reinsurance (ACII or local equivalent).
  • At least five years of relevant reinsurance underwriting experience (non-life treaty or facultative underwriting) in the MENA region.
  • Strong affinity for local culture and familiarity with local business practices.
  • Understanding of pricing and/or relevant Natural Catastrophe models.
  • Enthusiastic, forward-looking mindset with a focus on continuous improvement.
  • Ability to perform under pressure and meet tight deadlines.
  • Excellent team player with effective communication skills.
  • Strong negotiation abilities and communication skills to engage with business partners and internal stakeholders.
  • Technical, analytical, and results-oriented mindset.
  • Strong sense of reliability and responsibility.
  • Proficient knowledge of MS Office products, particularly Excel.
  • Fluency in English, both written and spoken, is essential. Proficiency in Arabic or French at a business level is highly desirable, and additional language skills would be an advantage.
