Job Opportunity: Senior Underwriter - Onshore Energy

Our client, a leading insurance and investment organization specializing in commercial property and casualty insurance, is seeking a talented Senior Underwriter to join their dynamic team in Zurich. This role involves close collaboration with counterparts across the European network and in the UK within a matrix structure.

Role Purpose

The Senior Underwriter will focus on writing profitable Onshore Energy business in accordance with the underwriting plan. This position requires the application of professional judgment to meet target premium revenue, achieve expected returns on capital, and promote business growth while adhering to the underwriting manual and general compliance, regulatory, and company procedures.

Key Responsibilities

  • Implement the underwriting strategy, portfolio, and customer/channel propositions to optimize local and regional business opportunities, aligning with the company’s strategy and risk appetite.
  • Support the underwriting community by underwriting this market segment and assisting in executing their business strategy.
  • Authorize and/or recommend decisions regarding Onshore Energy and risk exposures, taking into account local risk appetites to coordinate a final underwriting decision.
  • Monitor the marketplace to identify, assess, and recommend actions on underwriting opportunities and threats posed by new and emerging risks.
  • Identify and develop opportunities for cross-company cooperation and synergies within the broader organization.
  • Provide effective oversight and manage underwriting risks per agreed policies and risk appetites, reporting and advising management as necessary.
  • Enhance broker and client relationships to optimize opportunities for leading business, organizing or attending meetings, presentations, and events.
  • While qualified Risk Engineering skills are optional, a strong foundation in knowledge and interpretation in this area is beneficial.

Qualifications

To succeed in this role, candidates should have substantial underwriting experience in the Onshore Energy sector within the European market (preferably Germany), including the risk engineering segment. A deep understanding of this specific class of business, along with comfort in navigating market wordings, trends, and insurance and reinsurance practices, is essential.

Demonstrated proficiency in relationship building, communication, influencing, and negotiation is crucial. Strong language skills in both German and English will be vital for success in this position.
