Job Opportunity: Senior Underwriter - Onshore Energy

Our client, a leading insurance and investment organization specializing in commercial property and casualty insurance, is seeking a talented Senior Underwriter to join their dynamic Zurich-based team. This role involves collaborating closely with counterparts across their European network and in the UK within a matrix structure.

Role Purpose

The primary focus of this position is to underwrite profitable Onshore Energy business in alignment with the underwriting plan. The successful candidate will use professional judgment to achieve target premium revenue, expected return on capital, and business growth, all while adhering to the underwriting manual, compliance regulations, and company procedures.

Key Responsibilities

  • Implement the underwriting strategy, optimizing local and regional business opportunities while considering the company's risk appetite.
  • Support the underwriting community in this market segment and assist in executing their business strategies.
  • Authorize or provide recommendations related to Onshore Energy and risk exposures, while aligning with local risk appetites and coordinating these into final underwriting decisions.
  • Monitor the marketplace to identify, assess, and make recommendations regarding underwriting opportunities and or threats from new and emerging risks.
  • Identify and develop opportunities for cross-company collaboration and synergies within the broader group offerings.
  • Provide effective oversight and manage underwriting risks in accordance with agreed policies and risk appetite, reporting, and making recommendations to management.
  • Develop relationships with brokers and clients to maximize opportunities, including arranging or attending regular meetings, presentations, and events.
  • Possess qualified risk engineering skills; while optional, knowledge of and interpretation abilities are required.

Qualifications

To be successful in this role, you will need significant underwriting experience within the Onshore Energy sector, particularly in the European market (preferably Germany), which includes the risk engineering segment. You should possess advanced knowledge of this specific class of business, and be well-versed in market wordings, trends, and insurance and reinsurance practices.

Demonstrated skills in relationship building, communication, influencing, and negotiation are essential. Strong language proficiency in both German and English is required for effective performance in this position.
